Okay, since I'm SUCH a nerd, I sometimes go onto Star Wars Actors' IMDB pages. Today I looked at Ian McDiarmid's, and this is what I found in his 'trivia' section:
In an odd twist of fate, he [Ian McDiarmid] played an elderly, disfigured Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983), and then went on to play a younger version of that character, some 20 years later, in the Star Wars prequels.
(the first of the prequels came out in 1999, and I THOUGHT he sounded the same as the original person who played Palpatine when I saw it a few weekends ago. Now I know why...)
Weirdness? Yes.

The weird thing is, though, I have been raised to appreciate Star Wars, and I'm only finding out this stuff NOW. I have GROWN UP with this stuff. "The Phantom Menace" came out when I was five, and the first time I remember seeing any of them was when I was about seven, with one of the originals. I remember the Yoda and Luke scene in the swamp of the Degobah system, but I more distinctly remember seeing the pod race at my uncle's house when I was around seven or eight. The only one I HAVEN'T seen is 'Revenge of the Sith.' It came out when I was around twelve, but I was kind of freaked out by the previews, and I just never got around to it.
