Okay, so my basic thing of what I'm going to do is I'm researching marriage issues for Indian females coming to America/live in America but were raised by an arranged couple. So I did some research about arranged marriage. I looked up some sites, but did not read them very thouroughly. So here is what I am finding out as I read the first website's information: The marriage symbolizes not only the union of the couple but the union of the family. Okay, that was about the only useful information from THAT link. moving on. The title of this page is "marriage legalities in India." There are several different religions in India, all with their own marriage laws. India acknowledges the individual's rights, and lets the individual have their own cumpolsory rules. Said rules are usually based around the rules of the religion of said person. For example, there is the Hindu Marriage Act, the Christian Marriage Act, the Parsee Marriage and Divorce Act, and the Muslim Marriage Act. What is a parsee, anyway? *note to self-look up parsee* For the Hindu Marriage Act (1955), the guy has to be at least 21 and the girl has to be at least 18. They should be of the same religion and should not be within the degree of a prohibited relationship. (what does THAT mean?) Divorce can be obtained on various grounds. Muslims also have their own personal law that says that Nikah or marriage is a contract, temporary or permanent, and it permits a dude to have four wives just so long as he treats them all equally. If I were one of the girls, I would be rather pissed that my husband married three other people as well. I wonder how that would work out, anyway. The Parsee Marriage and Divorce Act (1939) governs the provisions of their marriage. Well, that's descriptive. Same goes for Indian Christians under the Idian Christian Marriage Act of 1889. So all these people are governed by an act about how they should get married? I should look into this......
Anyway, there is also the Special Marriage Act. I don't think the U.S. has THIS many acts with regards to marriage only. Sure, the temples and the mosques and the churches and the where ever elses will probably have their own decorum where their subjects would be damnable to the underworld for the rest of forever for not marrying someone of their religion. But anyway, what of this special marriage act? Special Marriage Act, 1954. Those who get married with no formal wedding ceremony or a civil marriage are governed by this act. Those getting married under this act do not need to go through any more legal steps because in this case registration is itself the marriage ceremony. (?????) OH it explains in the next scentence- "so whatever your religion it is important to legalize your marriage ceremony." And that's the end of that bit. MOVING ON!

You know what? When the site's information on your topic was only a paragraph long, it's a lot easier to manage taking typed notes on it. But this link, although it probably has good information, would probably drive me insane, clicking from tab to tab. So I'm going to stop with the note-taking now and just read the article.

This is probably the longest entry I've posted, except for the one with a load of space for dramatic effect when it was like "oh, tomorrow's blame someone else day... I didn't do it."

Well, I've just been doing some more thinking. Mom said half an hour of research means I get to watch Cities of the Underworld tonight if it's on and Emma if it's not. So that means around ten more minutes of this and I'm free.
Wait, no, I still have to do my math homework.
And eat dinner.

Well, here I am. Writing in my blog.
Right now I probably should be researching my race and culture project. I really should. But I am not. Because I do not really want to. That and the fact that I really, really, really, really, really do not get this project.
I do not get it because the teacher does not really give you enough to work with. Okay, scratch that, she gives you enough prompting to work with. It is just me that I am worried about. I am worried about me because I do not seem able to organize properly. And the project is due at the end of march.
What I really do not get is why the teacher is taking points off if we do not dress well enough or have a bad hair day. That is really mean. She used to teach college, which is probably why she would do that, but come on. We are in HIGH SCHOOL for Pete's sake.
Oh well.
I will go work on my project now.
Or do the best that I can.
I have an idea!
I will blog all my notes!
That is a good idea!
