Well, this weekend was probably the coolest trip to New York I've been on so far. Why? Mostly because we didn't entirely do tourist stuff. Well, we DID go to Time's Square and we DID buy stuff at American Eagle so we could get on the Jumbo Tron, and we DID buy some stuff in SoHo and we DID do a bit of browsing in the East Village, but that's not ALL we did, which is why I liked it. We also got caught in really heavy rain on the first day, went to a Gurdwara in Queens (Gurdwara = Sikh temple. There are 11 in Queens alone, whereas there's only one in DC and it isn't exactly doing well, apparently), gave bag lunches to the homeless, visited the UN, did an inter-faith dialogue/ drama excercise thing, and did a lot of stuff with inter-faith stuff (why wouldn't we? We're IYAG!).
I really liked the trip.
Also, we went to Ellen's Stardust Diner, where the wait staff are all aspiring Broadway performers, and they sing Broadway songs in between bringing people food.
And they also sing people 'Happy Birthday.' And occasionally get the entire restaurant to sing along.
Like they did for me on Saturday afternoon.
It was awesome. Our waiter had a REALLY good voice. Photos will be going on Facebook soon (and the video of me getting sung to will probably be up on the website in a few weeks) - just probably not this week, because I will be going on college tours tomorrow. Sooo yeah.
