glasses!

Yes, strange but true, I have glasses now. It's rather surprising to see how much detail I'm supposed to already be seeing without the glasses. I'm wearing them now, even though I don't technically need to, but whatever. So now I can see all the roads on that big map of Europe on the opposite wall, and I can kind of see where all the words are for the Interstates and the cities and the towns and whatnot. It's kind of cool. And I'm hungry. And I'm babysitting later. I'm going to bring the laptop, only because I have to work on an English paper, but I'm probably going to end up blogging. And listening to my iPod and stuff. Once I've put them to bed, of course. I'm hungry. And I'm going to have to go upstairs soon to work on my English thing, but whatever. I'm staying down here for now and type what I can about life and whatnot. And maybe I'll post some song lyrics or something.

I know I have no right
but sometimes late at night
I watch you in the attic
pacing back and forth like a maniac
I’ve never met a girl like you
anyone at all like you
this is very nice
such a lovely party
the music sounds so thrilling
it makes a person feel like dancing
I'm very good. I won a medal for dancing at school.
I don’t dance. Besides, I have a patch on the back of my dress.
A patch? Let me see!
No! No!
I like it. That patch could start a whole new fashion. Dance with me tonight and I guarantee by next spring, every girl in Concord will be wearing a patch on her dress!
We could do a hundred things,
Do anything you please.
We could fly on golden wings,
Across the seven seas.
I’ll bet you’ll get a camel through an needle,
If you’ll take a chance on me…
You’re a lunatic!
We could catch a thousand stars,
And stand them on a pin.
We could leave from here to Mars,
And make the planet spin.
If you want to do all the things you’ve ever dreamed of-
Come on! Take a chance on me…
We could be such friends,
Friends are never lonely.
All I know is books-
Books are solitary.
But I’d see you everyday,
How you live in your own way,
And you make me want to dare...
To take a chance on you!
All right. We could box if you like.
You box?
You ready?
I should warn you-I won a medal for boxing at school.
Hm. Is that how you win medals?
We could live a million dreams,
But only if we dare…
We could go to such extremes,
There’s so much we could share!
We’ll circle the world,
Doing all we ever dreamed of!
And we’ll live in our own way,
And I’ll see you every day!
We’ll be the best of friends,
When you take a chance on me!

Okay, green is Laurie (a guy, full name Theodore Lawrence III) and black is Jo (Josephine March). I really like this song. I really like a lot of songs. But I'm beginning to not like it when fingerprints mysteriously get on my glasses. But whatever. I have to go upstairs now to do my English thing-the video. Yeah. Going now. Later.

GRADES!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm at school, which (hopefully) will be winding down and I (hopefully) will get out of Spanish with a C. If I retake that test. And turn in the homework. And do the diary thing that she wants us to do every weekend. If I do that, I'm good. Hopefully. But I have a D in Spanish right now. I REALLY want to NOT have to redo Spanish. Nothing against my Spanish teacher or anything, but I just really don't want to have to redo Spanish. That would be really annoying. REALLY annoying. And I have a Geometry test today. I want to do well on that because that will (hopefully) raise my grade to a 78 or 79 so I can get a B average for the year. And I HOPE I do well on the next -how many are there? THREE? -history tests so I can get a B in History. And I'm definitely not going to get a 4.0 GPA this quarter, much less a 4.0 for the year. It'll be a stretch to get a 3.0 for the year. Well, it'll be a stretch to get a 3.0 this quarter, due to my lousy Spanish grade. HANG ON! Before I leave, MORE LYRICS!!! who is he Who is he with his marry me With his ring and his marry me the nerve the gall This is not Not what was meant to be How could he ruin it all With those two words I thought I knew him Thought that he knew me When did it change What did I miss A kiss When I thought all along That we were meant to find frontiers How could I be so wrong How I need How I need my sisters here If I can't share my dreams What were they for I thought our promise That we would never change and never part I thought together We'd amaze the world How can I live my dreams or even start when everything has come apart I thought home was all I'd ever want My attic all I'd ever need Now nothing feels the way it was before And I don't know how to proceed I only know I'm meant for something more I've got to know if I can be Astonishing There's a life That I am meant to lead A life like nothing I have known I can feel it And it's far from here I've got to find it on my own Even now I feel it's heat upon my skin A life of passion that pulls me from within A life that I am making to begin There must be somewhere I can be Astonishing Astonishing I'll find my way I'll find it my way I'll find it in unexpected and unknown I'll find my life in my own way Today Here I go And there's no turning back My great adventure has begun I may be small But I've got giant plans To shine as brightly as the sun I will blaze until I find my time and place I will be fearless Surrendering modesty and grace I will not disappear without a trace I'll shout and start a riot Be anything but quiet Christopher Columbus I'll be Astonishing Astonishing Astonishing at last
I know that the capitalization is awkward, and I know that It's in paragraph form (again), so...yeah.
That was "Astonishing" from Little Women, another awesome musical!
WOOT!
going now.

The joys of SOL week....

Yes, I am at home. Yes, I am listening to music (kind of) loudly. But, in my defense, it's Carbon Leaf, and Carbon Leaf is amazing, and nobody is home except for me. And half of my Carbon Leaf songs are going to hit 100 plays soon...as in I'll have heard them 100 times. Wow. I didn't know I liked Carbon Leaf so much. Their old-ish songs are some of their best, in my opinion. Like "One Prairie Outpost" and "When I'm Alone" and "Love, Loss, Hope, Repeat" and "Life Less Ordinary." Those are really good songs. Not that their other songs aren't good, but I think those are the best. But that's just me. And...yeah. I would post a part of a story, but there's one problem-I don't have any part of any story with me right now. And here are some lyrics because I'm bored (Life Less Ordinary by Carbon Leaf):
Live a life less ordinary/ Live a life extraordinary with me/ Live a life less sedentary/ Live a life evolutionary with me/ Well I hate to be a bother/ But it's you and there's no other/ I do believe/ You can call me naive but/ I know me very well/ At least as far as I can tell/ And I know what I need// The night you came into my life/ Well it took the bones of me, took the bones of me/ You blew away my storm and strife/ And shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me/ By the way, I do know why you stayed away/ I will keep tongue-tied next time// Live a life less ordinary/ Live a life extraordinary with me/ My face had said too much/ Before our hands could even touch/ To greet a hello/ So much for going slow/ A little later on that year/ I told you that I loved you dear/ What do you know/ This you weren't prepared to hear/ I'm a saddened man, I'm a broken boy/ I'm a toddler with a complex toy/ I've fallen apart/ since the ambush of your heart// The night you came into my life/ Well it took the bones of me, took the bones of me/ You blew away my storm and strife/ And shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me/ By the way, I do know why you stayed away/ I will keep tongue-tied but// Honey understand, honey understand/ I won't make demands/ Honey understand, honey understand/ We could walk without a plan/ Honey understand honey/ honey understand/ I won't rest in stone all alone/ Honey understand, honey understand/ I'm all ready to go/ But you already know// Live a life less ordinary/ Live a life extraordinary with me/ If I could name you in this song/ Would it make you smile and sing along/ This is the goal/ to get into your soul/ If I could make you dance for joy/ Could that be the second-chance decoy/ The bird-in-hand I would need/ To help you understand// The night you came into my life/ well it took the bones of me, took the bones of me/ You blew away my storm and strife/ And shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me/ By the way, I do know why you stayed away/ I will keep tongue-tied next time

Now I'm listening to Desperation Song by Carbon Leaf. It, too, is a very good song. It's one of their more Celtic-y songs, but it's still good. Carbon Leaf is really awesome. I love them. Apparently they have a new album out, but I haven't heard anything on it yet. Oh, well.
And I should probably leave now if I want to get to school on time...

awesome music :)

So I am currently listening to "100 years" by Five For Fighting, and I seriously think it's one of THE best songs ever. It's got a decent piano part, too. At least at the beginning. And it's just a brilliant song altogether. And now it's over. Now I'm listening to "stay" by Lisa Loeb. She's also rather awesome, even though she's like forty. But that shouldn't be held against her, because she's one of the few artists out there today who actually sings her songs instead of yelling them into the recording device to the beat of a loud drum and some other stuff.

You say I only hear what I want to.
You say I talk so all the time so.
And I thought what I felt was simple,
and I thought that I don't belong,
and now that I am leaving,
now I know that I did something wrong
'cause I missed you.
Yeah yeah, I missed you.
And you say
I only hear what I want to:
I don't listen hard,
don't pay attention
to the distance that you're running to anyone, anywhere,
I don't understand if you really care,
I'm only hearing negative: no, no, no.
So I turned the radio on,
I turned the radio up,
and this woman was singing my song:
lover's in love, and the other's run away,
lover is crying 'cause the other won't stay.
Some of us hover when we weep for the other
who was dying since the day they were born.
Well, well, this is not that;
I think that I'm throwing, but I'm thrown.
And I thought I'd live forever,
but now I'm not so sure.
You try to tell me that I'm clever,
but that won't take me anyhow,
or anywhere with you.
You said that I was naive,
and I thought that I was strong.
I thought, "hey, I can leave, I can leave."
Oh, but now I know that I was wrong,
'cause I missed you.
Yeah, I miss you.
You said, "I caught you 'cause I want you
and one day I'll let you go."
You try to give away a keeper,
or keep me 'cause you know you're just scared to lose.
And you say,
"Stay."
And you say I only hear what I want to.

And I totally didn't just copy all that off the Internet at all... but it IS a good song. You have to hear some of her songs to hear just how rather awesome she is, because of the simple fact that she's not some crazy half-drunk singer trying to make music by yelling a lot and banging a drum-she's actually singing and she actually has something that sounds somewhat like backup music. It's rather awesome. Okay I'm done ranting about Lisa Loeb. In case you were wondering. But I have some more lyrics for you! Yes, they're Lisa Loeb Lyrics (alliteration is rather awesome). They're of "Truthfully." It's probably my favorite Lisa Loeb song ever. Here it is:

This isn't what I like to call flattery,
but I know that I believe that I've found what's true
that I've found what's you
Truthfully I
I'm finding finally
Truthfully you
you helped me find at last
Truthfully we
are finding out what's true
And truthfully I am finding out what's you
Surprise, cause I was flying the plane
Surprise, cause now I'm smiling again
Surprise, cause you showed up with your parachute
Surprise, I'm kind of happy you showed up
Truthfully I
I'm finding finally
Truthfully you
you helped me find at last
Truthfully we
are finding out what's true
And truthfully I am finding out what's you
Truthfully, I really can't explain,
I'm floating, I'm smiling again
Truthfully, I can't ignore you,
cause I've been waiting for you
Truthfully, I'm not desperate,
I haven't changed my mind since we first met
but the last thing I want to do
is tell you that I'm right for you
Truthfully I
I'm finding finally
Truthfully you
you helped me find at last
Truthfully we
are finding out what's true
And truthfully I am finding out what's you
I'm finding finally
Truthfully, I'm finding out what's you
I'm smiling again
Truthfully

And I totally didn't copy those lyrics off the Internet either! But whatever. I have to go do homework. Or rather, I have to go review geometry for a test tomorrow. And I have to review with my dad. And...yeah. So I have to go now. I'm leaving. Wait, dad's not done with whatever he's doing. And now he is. So I'm going.

Hey! A post without an LOL!!

Yes, surprising but true, I have decided to post more than about two sentences. How epic is that? Well, this week, we have SOL tests, so Tuesday, Wednesday, and today I had to do testing in the morning, and tomorrow I don't have to come into school because I don't take Algebra 2, so I don't have to do the SOL. And the people who don't do the SOL don't come in until 12. So I'm probably going to bike around and do absolutely nothing for a while and then go to school. Perfect day. Not really. And then on Saturday I'm getting my glasses (AND I'LL FINALLY BE ABLE TO SEE LONG DISTANCES!! WOOT!!) and then I'm babysitting. And I'll actually be able to see the kids (that was supposed to be a joke, but it was really lame so you can disregard it).
I have to work today, too. I got my first paycheck last night, and it still says I'm working desk/snack bar, which isn't cool because I'm a GUARD. And it was almost the same as my first paycheck last year, too, even though I worked an hour more this year. Oh, well. What the heck. Yesterday was the staff meeting, which is why I got the paycheck (thanks, captain obvious). And I have to wear a bikini. I HATE bikinis. More exactly, I hate WEARING bikinis. I don't look good in bikinis. And it's just really awkward for me to be wearing a bikini when I'm not a size zero. I'm not sure what size I am, but I'm DEFINITELY not a size zero. And it feels really awkward for me. I don't know why. It just does.
I REALLY hope I got a decent grade on the History SOL. I've never gotten a full 600 (that's full marks), I don't think, and I don't think I've ever gotten an advanced pass since I left elementary school. Then again, I don't think I've EVER gotten an advanced pass. I don't remember. But I think it went well. The weird thing is, though, whenever I think a test went well, I often end up doing rather lousily on it. That's why I only have an A in chorus and English this year. And gym. I think. I'm not sure. And that's it. It's rather annoying. But whatever.
So....................................yeah.

Yes, I know. Another photo.

I know this is like the millionth photo I've put up, but I don't care. It's cute, and for once, it's not a celebrity one. It's rather awesome, though. And I love it.

yes, another bloody photo

I know I'm going overboard with the lol celeb thing, but I don't care. And I know this one is kind of awkward, but I think it's still funny. Kind of. Cute, more like, but whatever. I like it.

Ungora/Indigo #7

Avanna's birth parents were human, but her adopted parents, whom she met at age seven (the year she arrived in our community), were a scholar fairy and a wood nymph.
Nobody in our community really had parents, though. Yes, there were the cabins they slept in and the people they called mom and dad, but they learned about life from the abundant forest, learned social skills in the rough center of our community with the other kids. We had a very literal meaning of "a village to raise a child"-no kid was out of sight for long, and if one looked about to cry, any number of people would give them a hug. Everyone knew everyone, and nobody was antagonized unless they did something absolutely horrible.
Avanna was waiting for me by the usual not-exactly-an-entrance that I normally used to enter the community on the way back from the woods. This was unusual-I was usually the one to find her.
"You're late," she pouted. She was good at getting her way-like the princess, she was blond, pale-skinned, and blue-eyed, but Avanna still had a bit of the youthful innocence around her, probably because she was barely taller than five feet and her eyes could get huge and innocent when she wanted them to, successfully making any stranger think she was an adorable eight-year-old instead of a fifteen-year old trying to get her way or wanted you to forget she had done something wrong. She kind of looked like the princesses in the fairy tales your mom told you. This only worked on strangers, though, or those who didn't know her well. If it was someone who actually knew her and was used to what I call her "pretty glare," she wouldn't get out of any misdeed and she wouldn't get what she wanted. It took people a little while to get used to the pretty glare, as I had learned the hard way-we were always partners in crime, and so she'd always blame it on me and give them a pretty glare and I'd have to go clean the potty holes or something gross like that.
"What happened?" she asked.
"I had a run-in with an annoying royal," I told her as we walked into the not-exactly-center of the community. We didn't actually have anything like a town square or Main Street or anything like they did in the towns and cities like Jannask or Ganda, firstly because we made everything ourselves so there was no need for shops, and secondly because it would be too dangerous to make an official network between the houses, because it would be easier for us to be tracked.
"You didn't SAY that she was annoying, did you?"
"No, of COURSE I didn't. But Princess Cacyta of Bayast doesn't seem to like people like us."
"You met the PRINCESS?"
"Yeah."
"You weren't horribly rude or anything, were you?"
"Well, I didn't know she was the princess until halfway through the conversation-"
"So you were rude?" she interrupted, slightly awed and fearful at the same time.
"I didn't say that," I said indignantly.
"But you said-" she began to protest.
"I SAID that I didn't know she was princess until-"
"Well, did she seem mad?"
"Sort of," I admitted. "But that was probably because she didn't feel she deserved to be out in the wild with mud on her boots and an arrow pointing at her nose."
"You pulled an arrow on her?" Avanna cried hysterically. She was almost like my mom sometimes. It was rather annoying.
"She was following me."
"But she was the PRINCESS!"
"I didn't KNOW she was the princess when I pulled the arrow on her-"
"But WHY did you pull the arrow on her?"
"Because she was following me! What would you have done if someone was creepily stalking you?"
"Catch them by surprise and then negotiate strenuously, of course."
"'Negotiate strenuously' here meaning 'glare prettily and hope they'll leave?'"
"Yeah."
"So why did you come find me?" I wondered as we entered the central whatever-it-was of our community. " You usually sleep in."
"There's news," she said, suddenly scared. "There's a new guy."
New guys, or rather, strangers in general, always made Avanna nervous (she was awesome once you got to know her, but before you were formally introduced and had at least two conversations she wouldn't say anything), but she hadn't got THIS nervous since she first arrived in the woods.
"Well, is he evil or gorgeous?"
"No. Well, yes. Well, I don't know. He says he's on our side, but he also said he's from Ungora's court. He wants to talk to you and Layla."
"Why me?"
"I don't know. He was scary when he got here, he was panicking so much, but Layla calmed him down. They're at your place."
"I'm going to see what they want." I darted across the clearing and ran silently through the forest.
"Be careful!" Avanna called after me, but I barely heard. I was already deep in the forest. Layla and I lived in a tree house on the farthest reaches of the community's borders. Most of us live in trees, but Layla was more reclusive than most, and she claimed that she needed the exercise involved in walking to the main part of the area. By the time I got to the right tree, I was out of breath. I sprouted wings and got u without the ladder and retracted the wings as soon as I was inside the house. It wasn't very large on the outside, but my mom was part witch, so she had done some sort of spell to make it bigger inside without making any sort of difference on the outside.

p.s. I read. And he's not a priss. Not really, anyway. Not in the book, anyway.

bored.

Yes, I know that this is my earliest post on a weekday, but that is because the SOLs are today and I got out early because we're allowed to go once 3/4ths of the room is done with the test, and that happened by 11:15. Then I went off and did some stuff and now I'm here. So....yeah. Today was Geometry. Tomorrow is Biology, then World History. Friday I can sleep in and come in at 12 because I don't take Algebra 1 or Algebra 2. For high schoolers, we technically aren't allowed to come to school until 12 because that's when the SOLs end, technically, and class starts at 12:30. Or 12:35, technically, but whatever. And I have to work today. It's going to be rather embarrassing, because I'm still a guard in training. Well, that's not the embarrassing part. The embarrassing part is going to be the fact that I have to wear shorts and I got a sunburn on my thighs on Sunday from white water rafting and not re-doing the sunscreen on my legs. And the sunburn is right where today's shorts end, so it's going to be really embarrassing. I'm not wearing shorts right now, but I have to wear shorts for guarding to make it easier to save someone if I'm in shorts. I hope I don't have to be on the stand alone today. It's going to be scary if I am. If I am alone on the stand, some poor kid is probably going to die and I'm going to have save them and I'm going to mess up and get yelled at. So that's why I probably shouldn't be on the stand alone. Well, not yet, anyway. Yes, well, knowing me, I'd mess it up once I had enough confidence to be on the stand alone. I'd probably be a failure if I ever tried to save someone's life. I remember my status after I finished the lifeguarding course-it was the same week I got my black belt, so I was like, "If I accidentally beat someone unconscious with my black belt awesomeness, would I be legally required to save them?" because I could get sued if I didn't save them and I was wearing my guard shirt. And I've probably said that before, but whatever. I'm saying it again. All right, I'm going now. I guess. No, actually, I'm going to post some of a story or something. Maybe. Later.

REALLY fast...

okay, this is officially going to be my shortest post, because I have to go upstairs to eat, but whatever.... CLASS FOUR AND FIVE RAPIDS ARE THE FUNNEST THINGS EVER!!! AND YES, I KNOW "FUNNEST" ISN'T TECHNICALLY A WORD, BUT I DON'T CARE!!! But yeah, white water rafting is fun. And mom fell out on a class four, I think. Well, she fell out, anyway. And I jumped off an epically high rock. And I got an epic sunburn on the top of my thighs. Okay, going now.

Sam monologue

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. (stands, leans against a wall, looking out into the distance) It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something.

Another awesome Lord of the Rings monologue. This is from The Two Towers, though, at the very end, when they're in Minias Tirith (I think). It's a rather depressing monologue, but it's rather nice, too. It's another one of those awesome don't-turn-back monologues. Okay I gotta pack now. Bye.

Aragorn monolouge

Hold your ground, hold your ground. Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day. This day we fight! For all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

This is an Aragorn monologue. And I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I think it's like the best monologue ever. It's from "Return of the King," and it's just before the EPIC epic battle, and Aragorn is being all like, don't give up hope, and stuff, and it's amazing. Seriously, whenever people do epic monologues at times like those, I have this mantra going in my head that's like, "Say, 'I bid you stand, Men of the West.' Say 'I bid you stand Men of the West.' SAY IT SAY IT SAY IT!!!!!" Seriously that's what goes on in my head whenever scenes like that occur. Like in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie (At World's End), when Elizabeth's all like, okay, we have absolutely no chance of winning this thing, and our enemies probably want to beat the s**t out of us, but fight the s**t out of yourselves before they get to it, so I BID YOU STAND MEN OF THE WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously I wish she'd said that.
Okay going now.

Well...

I'm going to go white water rafting this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT!!!! This, of course, means that I will be forced on a five hour car ride to New River, West Virginia beginning at eight tomorrow morning, and arriving back on Monday at one, which of course means that I'm not going to be able to post until then. So, today I'm going to post many song lyrics and pretend it's the Daily Post for those days. And then I might post again for the heck of it. And then I'm going to pack and go to Tae Kwon Do. But first I'm going to pack. And then Tae Kwon Do. And then eat. And then post. Okay, I'm wasting time. I'll go now. And start googling song lyrics and poems and monologues and stuff like that. Okay going now.

yeah.

I love this picture. And I have to go to class now, but I love it and I wanted to post it. It's supposed to be sarcastic, but still. Okay, going now.
By the way, nobody died last night.
And I didn't die, either, in case you were wondering.

I changed my post name!

I changed my post name. So instead of "the Person" posting, "Bereth en Tyuru" is posting. You'll never guess what it means. It's Elvish, and it's the most random thing ever. But try to guess it.

It means "Queen of Cheese".

Epic, right?

It's rather random, but I like it. I like cheese. And I don't care that I'm not a queen, but what the heck. And I most definitely not the queen of cheese, but "Bereth en tyuru" sounds cool. Try it. Seriously. Say it. Be-reth-in-tie-oo-roo. IT'S EPIC!!!!!

Okay I'm done. For now.

Goodbye.

:)

AWESOME!!!!!!

So there's this awesome Lord of the Rings fansite called arwen-undomiel.com. And it's rather awesome. My favorite part about it is the fact that it has an Elvish page, where you can look up Elvish words and stuff. It's rather awesome.
I am going to do something I have never done before: I am going to hyperlink something on the blog. So therefore, the Elvish part of the Arwen site can be found here.
Okay, I'm going to see if it works.
IT WORKS!!!!!
WOOOOT!!!!!!!!
I am going to change my alibi. To my Elvish name. So..........yeah.
Bye.

First day of work today!

Today is my first day of working at the pool. I am kind of nervous because I am a guard this year. It is my first year as a guard, and I am scared that someone is going to go unconscious in the pool and I am going to have to go and save them and I am going to forget what to do once I get them out. And I am scared I am going to forget how to get them out. I HOPE there is another guard on the other stand, and I would have to do is watch everyone else and make sure nobody else dies while the other guard goes in to save the person. That would be the better idea. Because I would probably freak out if that happened. And I hope I do NOT have to blow the whistle on someone who is really obnoxious and will not listen. Swim team is going on today, too, I think. I do not know which stand I want. Which stand should I get? I do not know why I am worried about it. I am going to ask what the deal is when I get there. That is what I am going to do. Even though I am going to be late-I am scheduled to be there at three and I can not get there until four or four thirty. That is part of the reason I am nervous. And I am also nervous because all the other guards are very intimidating. Seriously intimidating. I do NOT want to get on the wrong side of one of the guards. I do not know why I do not want to get on the wrong side of one of the guards. It is just the way I am. I am intimidated by everyone who is older than me until they start being nice to me. And most of the guards are friends of my brother, so he could get really annoyed if I talk to them. Granted, I have absolutely no idea why he would get mad at me (he often bounces between "you need to get a better social life" and "can you not talk to my friends? It is kind of embarrassing.") I do not know why I am freaking out about this, though. It could be because that is just the way I am, but still. It is kind of scary for people to trust you enough to save them if necessary. I do NOT want to mess someone up who needs help. I could get sued. Seriously. If I do not save someone who needs help, I could get sued. If there is nobody else around and someone is unconscious and I have to go and get something and leave them there, I could get sued. I do NOT want to be sued. And I do NOT want to be guilty of killing someone.
And I do not know why I am so intimidated by the guards. The guards are people. The guards are only two or three years older than me. Or one year older than me. But point is, they are older than me. And they are intimidating because almost all of them are taller than me and my brother knows them, so that makes them practically off-limits for anything other than looking at them. I have to go now.
Calm.
You are NOT going to die.
Nobody else is going to die.
Death is not an option right now.
Call 911 if anyone looks like they are about to die.
And DO NOT FREAK OUT ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arena scheduling

Today I get to put down what classes I'm taking in what block. It was really annoying on Tuesday when we actually put down what we wanted our schedule to be, because a lot of the classes are offered only one block, and the ones that are offered multiple blocks were somehow conflicting with the ones that weren't. And it seems to be physically impossible for the schedule people to put a high school class in H block that isn't Geometry. Seriously. And I have to take an 8:20, so I have to go to school an hour earlier than I would have normally. But, on the other hand, I get two free blocks, so that's good. I guess. So what's happening today is I actually go around to the teachers-everyone does this-and we put our name down on the sheet for the block we want. Like I would go to the gym table and put my name down for 8:20, and I'd go to the math table and put my name down for Algebra 2 A block and stuff like that. At first I thought I wasn't allowed to have two free blocks (if I take on an 8:20 I'll have 9 blocks, and I only signed up for 7 classes), so I put down psychology, but then I learned that I was actually allowed to have two free blocks since I was taking an 8:20. So I'm going to cross off psych as soon as I get my sheet. I was very reluctant to take psych in the first place, number one because the human mind is not something I'm interested in (if I can still think, eat, and make parts move, that's all I need to know), and number two because the teacher who does psych also was my history teacher in sixth grade and he HATED me. He teased everyone, but I think he honestly didn't like me. But that could be just me. Either way, we didn't get along, and I don't think he'll like me in high school any more than he did when I was in middle school. He'll probably give me an even harder time. I don't know why he would, because I'm good with myself the way I am, but he apparently isn't. And if he's going to give me a hard time, like I know he will, I'm going to not take his class. And I don't really want to, anyway. So problem solved.
I am bored. I'm going to.....................I don't know what I'm going to do.
Oh, wait, yes I do.
I'm ACTUALLY going to get some reading done in Lord of the Rings, and ACTUALLY find out whether Legolas is a priss or not. THAT is what I will do.
Not yet, though.
I'm going to stay for a while.
I know!
I'm going to do another post!
I don't know what I'm going to talk about, but I'm going to do another post. And it will be awesome. AND YOU WILL ALL COMMENT ON IT BECAUSE I TOLD YOU TO!!!!!!!!!!

my iPod's being stupid. Grr.

Well, I'm at the computer. Listening to music. And it's not my iPod, it's iTunes, because my iPod is being really stupid. It's not charging. And it's frozen on the screen "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." And it still says it's 4:45 p.m. It's currently 8:32. And the computer says it doesn't recognize the USB. This is rather annoying. Oh, well.
Oh, yeah, by the way, all you readers (all...what? three of you?), anyway, you CAN comment on the stories if you want to. PLEASE! Yeas, Nays, what-the-heck-is-this-person-talking-abouts, this-is-completely-stupids, anything. It is all appreciated. And this is by invite only, so nobody's going to see it except those who can read it. Which, so far, isn't a lot. But whatever. The fact that people are paying attention is kind of cool.
And for once, I have minimal homework.
Except for reading "To Kill A Mockingbird."
And reading "Lord of the Rings."
And reading "Cry the Beloved Country."
The first two are pretty decent. Especially "To Kill a Mockingbird," which was a surprise. Required books for English class often end up being really boring. But TKAM is written from the perspective of an eight year old, and it actually SOUNDS like an eight year old, not like some twenty-eight year old trying to sound twenty years younger.
But "Cry the Beloved Country" is just weird. Okay, weird isn't the right word. A better word, or series of words, technically, would be "written like the author was sick when they were learning about quotation marks in fourth grade."
Honestly, whenever someone's talking he puts dashes. And he only does THAT when it's at the paragraph.
For example (this is seriously how he does it):
-Blah blah blah the girl said.
-Blah blah blah her friend said.
The girl glared at her friend. I said it first she said.

Honestly, that's how he does it. It's rather irritating.
And confusing.
But I guess I could get used to it.
I guess.

But there are several things I found out about Lord of the Rings from reading the first half:
  1. The movie messed up the entire beginning. True, the beginning was very slow, but still. They could have kept the scene with the elves. I mean, seriously, it's driving me nuts how much of the first half they left out.
  2. The Council of Elrond doesn't happen until halfway through. Seriously, it's divided into "book one" and "book two." The first chapter in Book Two is Many Meetings, and the next chapter is The Council of Elrond. In the version we have, this is on page 240 ish. Out of about 400. Wow. Just wow. Even I don't do that slow a startup.
  3. Frodo has the MOST EPICALLY AWESOME song/poem thing in the Bar Scene at Bree which ISN'T in the movie, because in the movie, he's just like, "SHUT UP, MERRY AND PIPPIN!!!!" But in the book he's like, "SHUT UP, MERRY AND PIPPIN!!! They're not shutting up...um....TIME FOR ME TO DO A SONG AND DANCE NUMBER!!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE LOOK THIS WAY SO PIPPIN AND MERRY DON'T BLAB FOR THAT SPY GUY DOWN THE STREET TO HEAR!!"
  4. Aragorn is officially THE awesomest character EVER. Gandalf even says that he was THE BEST Ranger. As in, THE BEST. As in, he can kick your sorry butt if he wanted to. And he could do it with executive priveliges and everything. Okay, not exactly. And Gandalf defenitely didn't say the bit about executive priveliges, either. I don't think you find out about Aragorn being king until the Council of Elrond. And I haven't actually read the Council of Elrond scene yet....
  5. Aparrently, Legolas is supposed to be a priss. I don't know that yet, as I haven't read Council of Elrond yet....
  6. And it's NOT Arwen who saves Frodo and runs him off to Rivendell. What ACTUALLY happens is.......I'm not saying. BUT all I will say is that Glorifindel (and I'm not sure whether I spelled that right) loans Frodo his horse. And Glorifindel exists only in the books. So to find out EXACTLY what happens to Frodo in the chapter entitled "Flight to the Ford," you must go off, check out a copy of "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" from your local library, turn to the chapter entitled "Flight to the Ford" and read through the first few pages of the chapter entitled "Merry Meetings" in order to find out EXACTLY what happened. Because I'm NOT going to tell you.

Okay I have an awesome idea!
I go and READ "The Council of Elrond" and I find out EXACTLY what happens in the Council of Elrond, and find out whether EXACTLY Legolas is a priss or not, and find out EXACTLY whether they mention Aragorn's being royal in the Council of Elrond or not. And then I tell you. But I think that part of the reason that Legolas has won the "miss prissy" award is because whenever they were doing fight scenes in the movies, Orlando Bloom's wig was always perfect, and everyone else's hair (which was actual hair, except for maybe Gimli) was all gross, especially Aragorn's. Because Aragorn is awesome.
So that's my job.
OKAY!!!

life

Well, guess what I found out on Saturday that I was too lazy (and too forgetful) to say until now? I'm getting glasses! I don't have horrible eyesight (20/30 without the glasses. I'm nearsighted), but it is rather annoying when I can't see the board in class and I can't see who's yelling at me from down the hall. So I'm getting glasses. I'm getting two pairs because I'm likely to break/lose one pair, so if I break/lose one pair, I can still use the other pair. It was really annoying because I had to wake up really early (okay, eight in the morning) to go to the eye doctor. And I was up till midnight the night before, so I was kind of tired. It didn't affect the test, but it was still kind of annoying. And then I stayed up till midnight on Saturday night because of the cast party. We were doing like memories and paper plate awards and stuff and my paper plate award, once again, had to do with my knitting. It's getting rather old, everyone giving me paper plate awards to do with knitting. Okay, I think this is only my second, but what the heck. Two is more than enough. I know I knit a lot and a lot of people probably see me and think, "hey! A knitter!" but I wish they'd think that I was something else, too. Like that I'm a black belt or that I cut my hair for Locks of Love or something than that. Just something that didn't make me only a knitter and nothing else. That's what it feels like, anyway. I mean, I love knitting. Knitting is great. But knitting isn't everything to me. People just seem to think that, and it's kind of getting on my nerves. I really, really, REALLY hope that I don't get a knitting paper plate award for the end-of-year chorus picnic thing. Because that would be REALLY depressing. Or rather, I would be depressed for the chorus teacher's Paper Plate creativity. I honestly think that he's more creative than that. I HOPE he's more creative than that. I'm PLANNING on him being more creative than that, because if he's not I'm going to be VERY sad.

Robin Hood Video

Well, I just watched the video of Scene 13 for Robin Hood, and I wasn't entirely happy. It's not entirely my mom's fault, and we did fine. But thing is, the camera was entirely on me during the scene even though I only had to react and I wasn't SUPPOSED to be the center of attention. I know I'm always kind of undecided about that, because sometimes I always wish the camera would be on me and sometimes I wish the camera would be on other people, but I was just sitting there the entire time while Prince John and Queen Eleanor and King Richard were doing their thing, and the camera was on me almost the entire time, which I didn't really like because I didn't get to see what their interactions looked like from the front. That's the big thing, though-sometimes you need to zoom in on someone, but if you do, you'll miss something. That's the part that really bugs me. It's not that I wish that my mom hadn't done the video, it's just I wish she would have not kept the camera on me almost the entire time. That's the part that really bugged me. A few summers ago, when I had a decent part in a musical, it was okay for her to zoom because I had a couple big solos. But I was a TOWNSPERSON who didn't have any lines in this, and the camera was still on me almost the entire time. That's the only thing I didn't like.

HISTORY CHANNEL!!

So I was just waching "The Universe" on the History Channel, and it was crazy cool. I wasn't really paying attention, but they were talking about the possibility of other Earth-like planets in the universe. It was rather awesome. They were saying how there would have to be Jupiter-like planets because Jupiter is like Earth's bodyguard against asteroids and stuff, apparently. And Jupiter was't doing so well when the dinos died because I guess the majorly accepted theory is that it was an asteroid that killed them all off. Therer was also something about how they're going to send some sort of bot out into space and all it's going to do is stare at this one constellation and take picture after picture, and thus serves absolutely no purpose except to see whether there's movement to block one of the stars in the constellation or something. So I guess it was searching for something like a solar eclipse or something.
How likely is a solar eclipse?
I have no idea. I have an idea-I'm going to google it. One moment please....

This isn't working.
I can't find anything about chance of Solar Eclipses or anything. There's only stuff like, 'oh, when is the next solar eclipse?' and stuff.

I guess it's not really relevant, because solar eclipses in our solar system probably don't have the same ratio of occurence as in other solar systems.

By the way, Robin Hood went rather awesomely. Well, our scenes went rather awesomely. Except last night when I had to pretend to pass out on another Townsperson and I accidentally knocked over my "Ye Olde Knitting Booke" (which is actually the school's Ye Olde Geometry Booke) and it made this really loud noise. It was rather awkward. But other than that, I think it went rather well, both times we've done it. Two down, two to go. I have to leave in about half an hour to go perform again, for the matinee. I have to stay all day, pretty much. Well, I don't HAVE to stay, but I'm going to. And I'm going to ask my mom for extra money to order Chinese instead of having pizza. It's healthier, and it tastes better. Plus I'm sick of pizza. I don't like to eat pizza excessively, but you kind of have to when it's show week, because it's quick and not horridly exspensive and a lot of people like it.

But I'm getting sick of it.

So I have to go to lunch now.

Bye.

Well, this is post numero 100. To be very honest, I never thought I'd post 100 times. Seriously. I thought I was just going to post a couple times and then be done with it. But then I'd feel really bad about not posting more, and then I'd keep it going. But what the heck. It's post number 100!!!! WOOT! :) :) :)

Ungora/ Indigo #6

Chapter 2-Cacyta

I strode back out of the forest, annoyed at what the idiotic girl had said. I wasn't as incompetent as she seemed to think I was. Neither was Ungora. Even though he was my dad, I still called him Ungora. It's his fault-he didn't want to be called 'dad'. He's not horrid, either. I knew that she was being an idiot, but I couldn't help wondering...what was the other side of the story? I knew from epic amounts of lecturing that most non-humans should be kicked out of the cities by the time they were seven, and I had always accepted that. But now, I was getting curious about what the other half of the story was.
"You took your time," Ungora said when I got back, meeting me in the entrance hall.
"I met one," I said curtly.
"And?"
"And she pissed me off."
"Why didn't you do her in?"
"She made an arguement. I argued back. The end." I shrugged and turned to go to my room.
"Why didn't you do her in, though?" Ungora insisted, following me up the stairs.
"She didn't piss me off THAT much."
"What did she say, exactly?"
"A load of crap about how you're an idiot and the elves and nymphs and whatever else really didn't want to overthrow us before and how my training is crap because I wore my new boots instead of my old and lousy ones."
"Well, those boots are rather nice, dear."
"Can I ask you something?" I turned and asked the question halfway down the hall. I guessed that now was as good a time as ever.
"Sure, anything."
"Are you feeling all right in the head?"
"Why would you want to know something like that?"
"But ae you?"
"Yes. Why?"
"The person in the forest just said some stuff about that sort of thing."
"Don't belive anything she says, or anything that any of the other ones say."
"Whatever."
"Go out tomorrow. Same time. See if you can get her again. If you do, don't let her see you and then take her in and we'll question her."
"Okay." I had decided-I would leave the castle, and let them see me go into the forest, but I wasn't going to go back to the path. I wasn't going to go after them and encounter them unless it was accidental.

Chapter 3-Indigo

I strode home in a very annoyed state. So THAT was the princess. Snooty jerkface. Her decorum teacher defenitely needed to go back to school. Cacyta probably had no way of self-expression, either. Then I remembered what someone had told me-art had been banned. So she most defenitely did NOT have a means of expressing herself. Despite my anger, I felt kind of sorry for her. It must have been kind of hard, not being allowed to do anything with her hands except swordplay.
But who had told me about the art, though?
Oh yeah-Avanna.
Avanna was my friend. She was a scholar elf and healer elf-very smart, and could heal anything. She had been forced out of Jannask, the capital, her home, because of what she was, and because of incompetence in high places (meaning Ungora).

ROBIN HOOD TONIGHT!!!

So Robin Hood is tonight. And, personally, I think it's going to be frigging awesome, because we're just awesome like that. Especially the Townspeople. The Townspeople are going to be THE COOLEST part of the show. No, not just in the show. The Townspeople are going to be THE BEST actors that the Audience has ever SEEN in their LIVES because...um...they're the townspeople. They're poor. And without the Townspeople, there wouldn't be a CROWD for ANY part of the show if there weren't the TOWNSPEOPLE. True, there are also the Bar Patrons, but the Bar Patrons are technically Townspeople as well. But what's really bad is that the girl who plays Maid Marian wasn't at school today. This is bad. I hope she's going to be there tonight. She should be there tonight. We have no understudy for Maid Marian.

If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen,
Right in the middle of the town.
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up,
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.

I'd fill my yard with chicks and turkeys and geese and ducks
For the town to see and hear.
(Insert)Squawking just as noisily as they can. (End Insert)
With each loud "cheep" "swaqwk" "honk" "quack"
Would land like a trumpet on the ear,
As if to say "Here lives a wealthy man."

If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

I see my wife, my Golde, looking like a rich man's wife
With a proper double-chin.
Supervising meals to her heart's delight.
I see her putting on airs and strutting like a peacock.
Oy, what a happy mood she's in.
Screaming at the servants, day and night.

The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise.
"If you please, Reb Tevye..."
"Pardon me, Reb Tevye..."
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!

And it won't make one bit of difference if i answer right or wrong.
When you're rich, they think you really know!

If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack
To sit in the synagogue and pray.
And maybe have a seat by the Eastern wall.
And I'd discuss the holy books with the learned men, several hours every day.
That would be the sweetest thing of all.

Lord who mad the lion and the lamb,
You decreed I should be what I am.
Would it spoil some vast eternal plan?
If I were a wealthy man.

Yeah I was just listening to that-If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof. It's a rather awesome song.
Now I'm listening to "Magic Dance" by David Bowie from Labryinth. That, too, is a rather awesome song.
Yeah....
bye for now.

Ungora/ Indigo #5

"You haven't got me surrounded. And you were trying to get me off guard again. I'm telling you, it won't work."
"How do you KNOW?"
"I'm a forest nymph, remember? I'm connected to the forest. I can tell that you haven't got me. And I know not to take my eyes off you because you're a warrior and you're a hunter, and you're going to make a move as soon as you think I'm not paying attention."
"How do you know that?" Her voice was suspicious.
"Trial and error. That's the best way to learn, as I've found out. I guess you were trained by all the top hunters and warriors in the kingdom."
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I was."
"They forgot one major lesson."
"That being...?"
"Your clothes. You need air circulation so you don't overheat. See, you're already breaking a sweat and I'm fine. And you shouldn't wear your best shoes."
"But they said-"
"They make more noise. The prints on the bottom are strong, too. It'll be easier for someone to track you if they wanted to."
"What are you doing here?"
"I live here. You don't. So my question is, what are YOU dong here?"
"Trying to corner one like you."
"May I inquire as to why?"
"The King doesn't like you people. I don't either, for that matter. He wants you all rounded up and sold as slaves. It serves you right. This forest is horrible, too. When I'm queen, this all will go."
"You don't belong here. And you're going to annoy the forest if you keep going on like that."
"The forest doesn't have feelings."
"You don't know that. And you don't belong here, so I recommend you leave."
"I have as much right to be here as you do. More, in fact. I'm on a mission, you're living a worthless life. The King's going to track all of you down and-"
"If he's doing it, why isn't he here instead of you? Why make the PRINCESS, of all people, come out and track us down?"
"I don't question the King. Neither should you. He trusts me, and that's all that matters."
"Well, if he's not a coward-"
"I didn't say that he was a coward, I would never-"
"You like him, don't you?"
"He's my FATHER, of course-"
"If he's so great, why did he-why IS he-exiling so many innocent creatures who didn't do anything wrong?"
"Because they AREN'T innocent, they're a threat!"
"HOW are they a threat?"
"They wanted to throw over the kingdom!! And the newborn would cause a rebellion if he didn't do something!"
"They wanted to go on with life! By throwing them out, he's giving them reason to rebel, if anything!"
"They won't rebel, they're miserable!"
"That's what makes people rebel!"
"What do you know?"
"A fat lot more than you do, it seems."
"You're wrong."
"Oh, really? Tell me, what exactly has Daddy told you about the mean elfies and the horrible others?"
"They're against the authorities, because they've gone wrong in the head-all of them. Theran, the old king, gave them too much freedom. They had to be put right. The world is better off without them living near civilized people."
"What if I told you that they were just the same as you, except not royal? That they only wanted to rebel after they were exiled for no reason? You're an elf. You shouldn't stand for this."
"I'm not an elf."
"You are. You're a warrior elf, remember? You said so yourself. And your ears are just like mine. Ungora's the one who's out of order. Tell him that from me."
"You're wrong," she repeated.
With that, she turned and left.

well...

Well, I LIVED!
Yesterday was hectic to the extreme, but I LIVED!
I was late, and it was hard, and I was up till ten finishing my geometry homework, but, in the end, you can't say I didn't survive.
I don't know why, but this computer says that the first part of "didn't" is a spelling error. For some reason. And it also says that the first part of "wasn't" is a spelling error, and all the conjunctions like that.

the amazing over-committer!!!

Yes, it is true-I have finally succeeded in super-over-committing myself. Well, okay, not overcommitting, but having to travel at the speed of light in order to get to both a MANDATORY Robin Hood rehearsal and a MANDATORY chorus concert in DIFFERENT places within the space of ten minutes. This isn't going to work. Okay, it IS going to work. Positive thinking, here. GAAAHH! STRESS!!!
:P.

Blue is Archie. He's cool.
Red is Patrice. She is also cool.
Purple is both Archie and Patrice. No, I don't think there's anything between them aside from them being friends and wanting Evan to not be so hard on himself.
Evan is in green. At that point in time, from what I know, he's feeling not so great because he just messed everything up. Or so he thinks.
And black is all of them singing together as one happy amigo-ship.
The end.

I like this song. It is a rather awesome song. My favorite line ever is "If that's what it is/ then that's what it is/ at least until Disney can rewrite it". It's Archie's line and it's rather awesome. At least I think so.

I'm random, I know.

but....

I'M ALMOST AT A HUNDRED POSTS!!!!!!!

And I think I also just set a personal record for number of posts in a day.

What the heck.

It's the music's fault.

go your own way-Fleetwood Mac

Loving you
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel

If I could
Maybe Id give you my world
How can i
When you wont take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you wanna do

If I could
Baby Id give you my world
Open up
Everything's waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely day

You can go your own way
Go your own way

This is THE BEST energy song I have yet encountered. And it is verifiable as an awesome song. Ask anyone who's heard it.
Anyway.....
from now on, as long as I remember to do it, I might do song lyrics on my posts.
I'm a music nerd.
I can't help it.

three ring circus

Gonna have a three-ring circus someday,
People will say it's a fine one, son.
Gonna have a three-ring circus someday,
People will come from miles around.
Lions, tigers, acrobats, and jugglers and clowns galore,
Tightrope walkers, pony riders, elephants, and so much more...

Guess I got the idea right here at school.
Felt like a fool when they called my name,
Talkin' about the government and how it's arranged,
Divided in three like a circus.
Ring one, Executive,
Two is Legislative, that's Congress.
Ring three, Judiciary.
See it's kind of like my circus, circus.

Step right up and visit ring number one.
The show's just begun. Meet the President.
I am here to see that the laws get done.
The ringmaster of the government.

On with the show!

Hurry, hurry, hurry to ring number two.
See what they do in the Congress.
Passin' laws and juggling bills,
Oh, it's quite a thrill in the Congress.
Focus your attention on ring number three.
The Judiciary's in the spotlight.
The courts take the law and they tame the crimes
Balancing the wrongs with your rights.

No one part can be
more powerful than any other is.
Each controls the other you see,
and that's what we call checks and balances.

Well, everybody's act is part of the show.
And no one's job is more important.
The audience is kinda like the country you know,
Keeping and eye on their performance.

Ring one, Executive,
Two is Legislative, that's Congress.
Ring three, Judiciary.
See it's kind of like my circus, circus.

Gonna have a three-ring circus someday.
People will say it's a fine one son,
But until I get it, I'll do my thing
With government. It's got three rings.

Shot heard Round the World

"The British are coming! The British are coming!"
Now, the ride of Paul Revere
Set the nation on its ear,
And the shot at Lexington heard 'round the world,
When the British fired in the early dawn
The War of Independence had begun,
The die was cast, the rebel flag unfurled.

And on to Concord marched the foe
To seize the arsenal there you know,
Waking folks searching all around
Till our militia stopped them in their tracks,
At the old North Bridge we turned them back
And chased those Redcoats back to Boston town.

And the shot heard 'round the world
Was the start of the Revolution.
The Minute Men were ready, on the move.
Take your powder, and take your gun.
Report to General Washington.
Hurry men, there's not an hour to lose!

Now, at famous Bunker Hill,
Even though we lost, it was quite a thrill,
The rebel Colonel Prescott proved he was wise;
Outnumbered and low on ammunition
As the British stormed his position
He said, "Hold your fire till you see the whites of their eyes!"

Though the next few years were rough,
General Washington's men proved they were tough,
Those hungry, ragged boys would not be beat.
One night they crossed the Delaware,
Surprised the Hessians in their lair,
And at Valley Forge they just bundled up their feet!

And the shot heard 'round the world
Was the start of the Revolution.
The Minute Men were ready, on the move.
Take your blanket, and take your son.
Report to General Washington.
We've got our rights and now it's time to prove.

Well, they showed such determination
That they won the admiration
Of countries across the sea like France and Spain,
Who loaned the colonies ships and guns
And put the British on the run
And the Continental Army on its feet again.

And though they lost some battles too,
The Americans swore they'd see it through,
Their raiding parties kept up, hit and run.
At Yorktown the British could not retreat,
Bottled up by Washington and the French Fleet,
Cornwallis surrendered and finally we had won!

The winner!

Hurray!

From the shot heard 'round the world
To the end of the Revolution
The continental rabble took the day
And the father of our country
Beat the British there at Yorktown
And brought freedom to you and me and the U.S.A.!

God bless America, Let Freedom Ring!

No more kings

Rockin' and a-rollin', splishin' and a-splashin',
Over the horizon, what can it be?
The pilgrims sailed the sea
To find a place to call their own.
In their ship Mayflower,
They hoped to find a better home.
They finally knocked
On Plymouth Rock
And someone said, "We're there."
It may not look like home
But at this point I don't care.

Oh, they were missing Mother England,
They swore their loyalty until the very end.
Anything you say, King,
It's OK, King,
You know it's kinda scary on your own.
Gonna build a new land
The way we planned.
Could you help us run it till it's grown?

They planted corn, you know
They built their houses one by one,
And bit by bit they worked
Until the colonies were done.
They looked around,
Yeah, up and down,
And someone said, "Hurray!"
If the king could only see us now
He would be proud of us today.

They knew that now they'd run their own land,
But George the Third still vowed
He'd rule them till the end.
Anything I say, do it my way now.
Anything I say, do it my way.
Don't you get to feeling independent
'Cause I'm gonna force you to obey.

He taxed their property,
He didn't give them any choice,
And back in England,
He didn't give them any voice.
(That's called taxation without representation,
and it's not fair!)
But when the Colonies complained
The king said: "I don't care!"

He even has the nerve
To tax our cup of tea.
To put it kindly, King,
We really don't agree.

Gonna show you how we feel.
We're gonna dump this tea
And turn this harbor into
The biggest cup of tea in history!

They wanted no more Mother England.
They knew the time had come
For them to take command.
It's very clear you're being unfair, King,
No matter what you say, we won't obey.
Gonna hold a revolution now, King,
And we're gonna run it all our way
With no more kings...

We're gonna elect a president! (No more kings)
He's gonna do what the people want! (No more kings)
We're gonna run things our way! (No more kings)
Nobody's gonna tell us what to do!

Rockin' and a-rollin', splishin' and a-splashin',
Over the horizon, what can it be?
Looks like it's going to be a free country.

Interjections!

Cough! Cough! Cough!)
When Reginald was home with flu, uh-huh-huh,
The doctor knew just what to do-hoo.
He cured the infection
With one small injection
While Reginald uttered some interjections..

Hey! That smarts!
Ouch! That hurts!
Yow! That's not fair givin' a guy a shot down there!

Interjections (Hey!) show excitement (Yow!) or emotion (Ouch!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.

Though Geraldine played hard to get, uh-huh-huh
Geraldo knew he'd woo her ye-het
He showed his affection
Despite her objections
And Geraldine hollered some interjections...

Well! You've got some nerve!
Oh! I've never been so insulted in all my life!
Hey! You're kinda cute!

Interjections (Well!) show excitement (Oh!) or emotion (Hey!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.

So when you're happy (Hurray!) or sad (Aw!)
Or frightened (Eeeeeek!) or mad (Rats!)
Or excited (Wow!) or glad (Hey!)
An interjection starts a sentence right.

The game was tied at seven all, uh-huh-huh,
When Franklin found he had the ba-hall.
He made a connection
In the other direction,
And the crowd starting shouting out interjections...

Aw! You threw the wrong way!
Darn! You just lost the game!
Hurray! I'm for the other team!

Interjections (Aw!) show excitement (Darn!) or emotion (Hurray!).

Interjections (Hey!) show excitement (Hey!) or emotion (Hey!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.

Interjections show excitement or emotion,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... YEA!

Darn! That's the end!

Mr. Morton

This is the tale of Mister Morton
Mister Morton is who?
He is the subject of our tale
and the predicate tells what Mister
Morton must do

Mister Morton walked down the street
Mister Morton walked
Mister Morton talked to his cat
Mister Morton talked
(Hello, cat. You look good.)
Mister Morton was lonely
Mister Morton was

Mister Morton is the subject of the

he does

Mister Morton knew just one girl
Mister Morton knew
Mister Morton grew flowers for Pearl
Mister Morton grew
Mister Morton was very shy
Mister Morton was

Mister Morton is the subject of the
sentence, and what the predicate says,
he does

The subject is a noun,
that's person, place or thing
It's who or what the sentence is about
And the predicate is the verb
That's the action word
that gets the subject up and out

Mister Morton wrote Pearl a poem
Mister Morton wrote
Pearl replied in the afternoon
Pearl replied by a note
Mister Morton was very nervous
Mister Morton was

Mister Morton is the subject of the
sentence, and what the predicate says,
he does!

The cat stretched,
the sun beat down,
a neighbor chased his kid.
come here kid - come on!)
Each sentence is completed when
you know the subject did.

Mister Morton knocked on her door
Mister Morton knocked
Mister Morton sat on her porch
Yes, he just sat and rocked.
Mister Morton was a nervous man;
when she opened up the door he ran.

Mister Morton climbed up his stairs
Mister Morton climbed
Mister Morton rhymed pretty words
Mister Morton rhymed
Mister Morton was lonely
Mister Morton was
until Pearl showed up with a single rose.
Who says women can't propose?
Now Mister Morton is happy
and Pearl and the cat are too

They're the subjects of the sentence
and what the predicate says, they do

SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!

I just rediscovered Schoolhouse Rock. And I just how FLIPPING AWESOME Schoolhouse Rock is.
Why is Schoolhouse Rock flipping awesome?
Because Schoolhouse Rock taught me more about grammar in five minutes than many of my English teachers could. Except for maybe my eighth grade teacher. Who had the sense to bring in her Schoohouse Rock DVDs.
Seriously.
Great things about Schoolhouse Rock:
#1: awesome music.
#2: very catchy lyrics.
#3: you can actually tell what they're saying.
#4: you can actaully LEARN something from it.
#5: schoolhouse rock is a lot more fun than listening to your teacher lecture about preticates and interjections and the American Revolution and whatever.

Those are the basic reasons why Schoolhouse Rock ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Part #6 of Shya/Valin/Faug

Chapter 6

A few minutes later, a servant showed up at Faug and Valin’s door to show them to the dining hall. It was a massive room that was bathed in a soft, golden light that was supplied by hundreds of candles that somehow hovered from the ceiling unsupported. The table went the length of the entire room, even though there were only a few places set at the far end. Faug wondered why they didn’t just use a different room, or even a different table. It seemed kind of a waste of space to use the massive table when there were only a few people there. Telsiel was sitting at the far end of the room, at the head of the table. He glanced up when the two boys entered, smiled slightly, and beckoned them forward. The brothers approached apprehensively. Even though they technically knew everyone except for the dark-haired girl by Hyan who was most assuredly NOT Shyasha, and the small girl near Dalar who was most definitely NOT Shyasha, it was still kind of intimidating. Every one of the eight or so people present seemed both older than them-except for the girl near Dalar-and had some sort of magic about them.
Vain lanced around the table, seeing how many people he could name. That was Telsiel at the end, and on Telsiel’s right was Dalar. Next to Dalar was a small girl with very dark skin who looked no older than eight. Next to this girl was Hyan, and on Hyan’s right was a slender young woman who could pass for his sister. This was probably Tiba, Valin thought. Next to the maybe-Tiba was a male dwarf. Across from Tiba and Hyan were three more people who looked like elves-one female, two males. By the female elf and the dwarf there were two empty places that had plates but no people in the chairs. Telsiel motioned for Valin and Faug to sit there. As he sat down, Faug noticed there was also a spare seat on Telsiel’s left. He also noticed, with a pang in his stomach, that Shyasha wasn’t there. This made him kind of uncomfortable and very nervous. At least he knew Shyasha. Now all he had to talk to was Valin. And suddenly he wasn’t quite sure he wanted to talk to Valin. In fact, Faug wasn’t quite sure whether he was physically capable of opening his mouth anymore.
Finally, Telsiel spoke. “Quick introduction, just so everyone knows everyone. Just go around the table and say your name. I’m Telsiel.”
“Dalar.”
“Liea.” The small girl’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“Hyan.”
“Tiba.”
“Shangru.” The dwarf had a very gruff, deep voice.
“Valin.”
“Faug.”
“Tayana.” The female elf next to Faug sounded like she could be a singer. “Shya’s mother.”
“Akalu,” said the male elf by Shyasha’s mother. “Shya’s dad.”
“Iluri. I’m just here.”
“Where is Shya, Telsiel?” Tayana asked in her calm, slow voice.
“She’s coming,” Telsiel said. He glanced up again, noticing movement at the top of the staircase to the dining hall. There Shya was. She was the closest thing to beautiful that he could remember.

Faug and Valin hadn’t thought Shyasha was the kind of girl who would willingly put on a dress and let people catch her in it while she was still breathing. They had thought that she was the kind of girl who would roam the forest in male clothing, never showing her face to anyone and remaining a mystery for the rest of her life. She was a tomboy and was always willing to fight, both humans knew that. She would never be fully contained by anything. However, the intricate braiding of her hair and the pastel dress she was wearing were coming frightfully close to be the thing that contained her. However, they noticed she was still barefoot. Nonetheless, Shyasha was NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, going to wear formal shoes, too. AT ALL.
"Why is she wearing a dress?" Faug muttered.
"Because this is how life is when you're royal," Valin muttered back.
"She looks tired," Tayana murmured to her husband.
"She hasn't slept for four days," Akalu replied. "She told me-she was the night watch on the road."
"Couldn't that older human do it?" Tayana asked, glancing at Valin. "He looks strong enough."
"Shya was the one that was supposed to be protecting them, they weren't supposed to be protecting her."
"She's the princess. She's the one that's supposed to be protected."
"She never cared about that."
"She never cared about anything."
"She cared about staying alive. And she’s named ‘the shadow warrior’ for a reason. She wasn’t going to be like our other daughters, sitting in a tower or going to balls or whatever in order to get married.”
“Only because you wouldn’t let her.”
“And because I wanted one daughter who could think for herself.”
“Maybe she thinks for herself a little too much.”
“No, she doesn’t.”
“But after what happened-”
“There’s a difference between mistrust of people because you’ve been hurt and independence because you don’t want to be treated like an idiot.”

laaa

la la la la la.
I'm bored. By the way.....
The fair on Saturday was fun. :) And I went to the library and got this CRAZY AWESOME book by Andy Serkis (who played Gollum in Lord of the Rings) about how they did Gollum, like the animation and stuff like that. And he wasn't just the voice. He was the base for the animation for Gollum. It was crazy awesome how they did it. I don't have the room to say here, partially because I don't remember, but I DO remember that it was crazy cool. I love books like that. They're crazy cool. And crazy awesome. It's more like the content of the books like that that I like, but it I love it. I know I'm weird, but I like those kind of books. Because I act. And I'm interested in that sort of thing. So that's why I love them.
So.........................
Yeah.
Okay.
Done now.

back from auditions

So.
I auditioned.
It wasn't horrid, but.............
It wasn't amazing. I seriously killed the actual singing part of it. I was off key and kind of weak on the high notes. The only decent part was the range test and the sight reading. The sight reading was the best part, to be honest. Because I only killed the end. Which was kind of a nice feeling, only killing one part. But the range was okay. The range part was easy. And the warm ups. But other than that, I failed.
I only auditioned for women's camerata, because, number one, I have absolutely no chance of getting into chamber singers, and number two, I want to take something other than chorus as an elective. And I wanted to be women's camerata more anyway. Chamber Singers is like the elite. Except not.
Okay I have to go to class.
bye.

auditions.............................

I have to audition soon. For the super-epically-awesome-to-the-extreme choirs at my school. And I am currently FREAKING OUT!!!!!!
Kind of.
I don't know why I'm nervous. The chorus teacher's really nice. I already know him. But still..................... It's nerve-wracking, going in to audition for the higher choirs. You don't know anything for certain. And it's just like, what am I going to do? I don't want it to be like my West Side Story audition. My West Side Story audition was completely and utterly awful. I failed at it miserably. So I don't want it to be like that. I'm nervous. It's in fifteen minutes. EEEKKK! I am going to fail miserably. But I want to be in one of the freaking awesome choirs. I've wanted to since sixth grade. But now the auditions are here, and I'm FREAKING OUT!!!!! Well, I guess that it would have been worse with the other teacher. The old choir teacher was really nice, too, but he was a lot more intense about choir and would only let the best of the best into anything other than the main high school choir. So I guess I could be glad that I'm not auditioning for him. But still. I'm nervous.
I'm leaving now.
Bye.

blah lah la

So anyway........ I learned how to flip someone when they have me in a headlock. No, I can't show you. But I learned how to do it from a guy who was almost twice my size. It is very empowering when I actually did it on him. Yes, I ACTUALLY got out of the headlock and got him onto the ground. I was always sort of intimidated by him, but he turned out to be kind of nice. He reminds me a bit of another adult guy at my dojang who is also really nice. That's what's great about having nice adult guys at your dojang who are willing to help you with combat material-they teach you stuff, and then when you do it on them you know that you can do it on pretty much anyone if you have to because they're probably the biggest people that you're going to end up having to flip over. Except for maybe some really strong guy who goes to McDonald's every day. Or something. I'm thinking of a worst-case scenario here. But now my arms kind of hurt because flipping people over is mostly in the arms, more specifically the shoulders, as are all the one step sparring things for black belts-it's basically learning street fighting. I have to get out of someone holding me somewhere (which was why I was learning to get out of a headlock), flipping someone over (I can't actually remember whether the headlock one was a hold or a flip. It could have counted for either.), get away from a gun pointing at you, a knife about to stab you, and I'm not sure whether this is actually part of what I have to do, but breaks. Like breaking bones type breaks. I'm not sure though. But what's awesome is that I get to basically come up with my own one step sparring. The only annoying thing is that once I come up with the two one steps for each category, I'm stuck with them until my second degree test. Or later. So if I don't want to break my back I'm probably not going to do the headlock one until my second degree. But the headlock one is useful. Also the lapel one, even though that one's kind of hard. Okay, you probably have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.
I'll shut up now.
The end.

Part #5 of Shya/ Valin/ Faug

Chapter 5

Shyasha, Valin, and Faug strode across the barren courtyard. Even though it was nearly dusk and the day was cloudy, there was only one light on in an upper window. When they were about halfway across, Dalar came storming out, flanked on either side by the two companions he had had on the road. Shyasha paused and indicated to the two humans to wait for Dalar and his companions to reach them. The younger one had olive skin and wide, curious, dark brown eyes. The older man was pale with amber eyes and a very stoic expression.
“You’re late,” Dalar snapped when he reached Shyasha.
“You’re early,” Shyasha replied smoothly, using that same melodic voice that she had used on the first day that Faug and Valin had met her. “We agreed that the latest we should have gotten here was tomorrow. We saw you on the road the first day out of Ciliar. You were traveling fast. What was wrong?”
“You weren’t there.”
“Neither were you.”
“I told you to protect them when you found them, and then to wait until I arrived before leaving.”
“But you also said that, in the instance that you didn’t show up after 24 hours, I should take them on the road. We left after 24 hours.”
“Why didn’t you stop us on the road?”
“I would have rather flung myself in front of a speeding rhino. It would have had the same effect. Is Tiba here?”
“Yes, she is here. And we were pressed for time. And some of us were more worried than others to get back.” Dalar said this with a glance at the man on his right-the older of the two companions.
Under her hood, Shyasha glanced at him, too, and her eyes lingered there for a moment. Even if he saw it, and she wasn’t sure he did, he gave no hint that he felt her gaze or could interpret its meaning.
“People need to be introduced,” the darker-skinned man said politely.
“Yes,” Dalar agreed. “Hyan, this is Shyasha Rinkari. She goes by Shyasha most of the time and is Shya to her close friends. She won’t take off her hood unless she needs to prove a point. You three, Hyan is a sorcerer. You’ll meet Tiba, who is inside. Hyan, the short human is Faug and the taller one is Valin. And Shyasha, Telsiel says that you’ve met before.” Dalar continued, indicating the man on his right.
“We’ve met,” Shyasha agreed, inclining her head slightly at Telsiel, half in greeting, and half in warning. Telsiel nodded. “Nothing more.” There was something in her voice that made it absolutely clear to Telsiel that if he mentioned any reference to any prior contact whatsoever, Shyasha personally would find out about it, hunt him down, and kill him to death until he died and then strangle him.
“Yes, anyway,” Dalar said. He knew, or rather sensed, what Shyasha was indicating with her tone of voice, and he didn’t want Telsiel to die just yet. “We’re going to leave at dawn, day after tomorrow. Be ready to move. Pack light and don’t pack more than two changes of clothes. There’s a council meeting tomorrow. All of you have to attend. When and where the council will meet will be confirmed at dinner. Till then.” He jerked his head, beckoning them inside, before turning and striding back across the courtyard to the castle. Hyan gave Shyasha a curious glance before turning and following Dalar into the castle. Faug started to follow, but Valin stopped him and murmured, “Wait for her.”
“No, it’s okay,” Shyasha said. “Follow Dalar and Hyan and don’t touch anything unless they say you can. Got it?”
“Yeah,” the two boys agreed and strode off, following the two mages inside. Faug picked up his pace and caught up with Hyan. Shyasha heard Faug start babbling away and asking Hyan questions. Hyan smiled and answered the questions easily. Valin was slower to enter the castle, and hesitated at the door to wait for Shyasha. He was more of an introvert than Faug, so he couldn’t randomly go up to people and start charming them as easily as Faug. He was too shy to talk to Hyan just yet, and he trusted Shyasha more anyway.
Telsiel and Shyasha stood facing each other in the middle of the courtyard. Shyasha glared from under her hood. Telsiel stood back and inclined his head, letting Shyasha go first, but she gestured to let him pass.
“You’re the princess,” he said, as if explaining why he was letting her go first.
“You’re the king,” Shyasha countered, no trace of a joke in neither her voice nor the small bit of mouth that Telsiel could see.
“You’re the female.”
“You’re the one in charge.”
“You’re the guest.”
“You’re the one who knows what’s going on.”
“You’re the one who needs to be shown around.”
“That’s why you go first.”
Watching from the drawbridge, Valin realized just how strange the two looked together, looking at each other, but also how different Telsiel seemed from a few moments ago. Telsiel was tall, middle aged, a king, and a very, very stoic one at that, from Valin’s limited knowledge of him. But now he was more open than he had been before. Instead of being very, very stoic, he was now just plain serious. He didn’t look like a carved statue anymore, but he definitely didn’t look like he was about to burst out laughing or singing. Something similar could have been said for Shyasha.
Eventually, the two turned and moved towards the castle side by side, not exactly best pals, but accepting the fact that they were stuck with each other.
“What was that about?” Valin asked when Shyasha passed him in the door.
“Nothing,” Shyasha said shortly, and Valin knew that, however much he didn’t like it, that was all he was going to get out of her for now.
Seeing the put out look on Valin’s face, Telsiel said, “We had this thing going a while ago. Running joke type thing.”
“Right,” Valin said, not entirely sure whether Telsiel’s tone was actually causal or not. He was curious about the relationship between the two elves, but didn’t want to press the subject, consenting to watch Telsiel’s face as Telsiel’s gaze followed Shyasha down the hall. There was a small flicker of something in his dark eyes, but then the flicker went out.
“You’re Valin.” Telsiel said abruptly, as if almost shaking himself out of a trance. Still, the words were more of a statement than a query of his identity.
“Yeah. Nice to meet you, officially.” They shook hands. “So…you’re the king? I think Shyasha said something about something like that.”
“Yes, I guess you could call me King. How’s Shya been treating you guys? Nothing absolutely horrid, I hope?”
“No, not really. She’s pretty nice, and can be a real laugh at times, but she’d get kind of edgy when Faug got on her nerves. But with Faug, either something’s a joke or it’s not worth his time, so he somehow gets some sort of humor out of it. She never really liked it when he did that, especially when she was in a bad mood, but she was all right, most of the time.” Valin was amazed that he had said all that. He was blabbering, he knew it. He was a tentative introvert who was confronted by a king. This wasn’t his kind of situation.
“Yeah, she has a tendency to be like that,” Telsiel agreed, smiling slightly. Maybe this guy wasn’t so bad, Valin thought.
“But she wasn’t horrid,” Valin said quickly. “Very sarcastic, but not horrible. But she’s kind of unpredictable.”
“I know,” Telsiel agreed. “She can be rather weird. She’s the kind of person that only needs a few days for you to think you know her really well, and then the next month she’ll completely surprise you with some new idea. And it’s really hard to know one thing about her without wanting to know something else.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“How do you know her?”
“We were friends when we were kids. I was the tailor’s son. She was the princess. She was sick of the conformity of being a princess so she stole clothes from the stable boy and roamed the streets of town. She sometimes came into my father’s shop, and once I was done with my chores we’d play Rangers and Outlaws with all the other kids or go into the forest and roam around with another girl she’d met-Tiba, the sorceress. Whenever we’d do Rangers and Outlaws, Shya would always be the captain of the boy’s side, because she called herself ‘Rinko’ and claimed she was male. Since her hair was short everyone believed her. It suited her personality-she’s not one to confine herself to the norm.”
“When did you find out she was a girl?” Valin wondered as they walked down a hall. “And when did you learn she was the princess?”
“Oh, that was a really funny day,” Telsiel laughed. “We were playing our most aggressive game of Rangers and Outlaws ever, and Shya was captain of the boys’ Ranger crew, because she’d been dubbed ‘Best Ranger’. It was crazy-we were all flinging mud at each other and screaming our heads off and running around, being absolutely crazy and having a whole load of fun. Then her governess comes out of the castle and starts looking for Shya in town, apparently. I didn’t see that part; I was busy creating a huge mud ball to fling at Joen Frump. But then the governess sees the fight and stands there for a while, glaring at all of us, and it sort of gradually died down and everyone stood looking at her. She was in this really fancy dress-it was insane. Then she spotted Shya and hollered, ‘PRINCESS SHYASHA RINKARI!!! GET YOUR LITTLE REAR END OVER HERE RIGHT NOW OR ELSE!!! I DON’T WANT TO EVER SEE YOU LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN!!!’ That was a surprise to all of us, and what was more surprising was when ‘Rinko’ strode forward with his head bowed. We were only ten, and none of us had entered puberty yet, so the difference between boys and girls wasn’t as obvious. But still, most of the guys thought girls-especially girls in the palace and especially the seven princesses-were complete wimps. Most of them were, but not the youngest princess.”
“Did she ever come down to town again?”
“Yes, but not as often. She came down as often as she could, but she wasn’t as willing to hurl mud at Joen Frump or anyone else anymore. She didn’t really come around the shop until we were in our teens-I think that was when her governess left-and by then she had become more refined. She wore a dress, at least. But after the governess found her out, it was never really the same between us. We were still best friends, and we still had adventures, but we weren’t quite as crazy.”
“So how did you become King?”
“Shya only had sisters, no brothers. We had this policy that, if that happened, the youngest girl’s husband would have to rule. The average marrying age was fifteen, but Shya didn’t want to, nor did she show any prospect of being interested before she’d be dubbed a spinster. Her father knew we were friends-he saw her walk to our shop and saw us walk around town too many times to think differently-and he thought I was worth it, so he named me his heir. Shyasha didn’t take it too well, and somehow, a short time later, went clinically blind and ran off into the forest and stayed there. That’s all there really is to the story, and there’s your room.”
They had paused by a door halfway down a corridor on the East Wing.
“One last question,” Valin said.
“Sure.”
“Cerob said the city was attacked by Wylds, and the survivors took refuge in the castle. Where are they?”
“They’re in the West Wing,” Telsiel said shortly. He said this too fast and strongly for Valin to be entirely convinced of the truth of his words.
“Okay. Just wondering.”
“Dinner’s in about an hour. Someone will be around to show you where to go when it’s time.”
“Do I have to dress up?”
“No, but I must warn you that Shyasha might actually be wearing a dress, so she won’t look entirely the same as you’ve probably grown accustomed to.”
“All right. See you then, I guess.”
“Good bye.”
Telsiel turned and strode back up the corridor to the main entrance. Valin went into his room. Faug was already there.
“Where were you?” Faug demanded.
“I was talking to Telsiel,” Valin told him. “Where were you? And how did you get in here?”
“I was talking to Hyan, who said that Shyasha might be forced to dress up, and that we’re supposed to share a room,” Faug replied.
“Telsiel said that she might wear a dress as well,” Valin said. “It would be kind of weird, seeing Shyasha in a dress, wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah, I guess,” Faug said in a bored tone.
“Well, guess what I found out about Shyasha from Telsiel?” Valin said. He was glad of this new insight into Shyasha’s life-he knew it wasn’t right to pry into other people’s relationships, but Shyasha’s past was somehow more interesting the more he heard about it. Like Telsiel had said, you couldn’t know just one thing about her.
“What?” Faug asked eagerly. Apparently he, too, was eager to figure out what exactly happened to her.
Valin spent the next half hour telling Faug everything that he could remember from what Telsiel had told him.
“It’s him,” Faug said when Valin was finished talking. “Telsiel was the guy who Shyasha was in love with.”
“What makes you think that?” Vain asked.
“Well, number one,” Faug began. “She acts all solemn around him.”
“She was all solemn when she first met us,” Valin reminded him.
“Good point,” Faug said. “Anyway, number two. If Shyasha’s dad was willing to name Telsiel his heir, Telsiel must have been up to the court at least once, which means they must have had something going on well enough for Shyasha to take him up to the castle in the first place. Am I right?”
“You’ve got a point,” Valin agreed.
“Number three,” Faug continued. “Telsiel said that when they were teenagers they still hung out and went on adventures, but they weren’t quite as crazy.”
“So what’s your point?” Valin wondered.
“My point,” Faug said. “Is that the adventures could have been of a different kind.”
“Faug, I can’t believe you’re nine years old,” Valin said. “You have a very strange mind, my friend.”
“But am I right?” Faug insisted. “They could have seriously been trying to figure out how to capture the kinetic energy of a running unicorn, couldn’t they?”
“I don’t think that they’d be trying to do exactly that, but it’s a thought,” Valin said, glad that Faug wasn’t thinking about what Valin thought he was thinking about.
