Sonnet 133

Here is sonnet 133, by William Shakespeare. No, I did not type this up off the top of my head. I copied it off of spark notes. I do NOT want to think about that sonnet again until Thursday.

Beshrew that heart that makes my heart to groan
For that deep wound it gives my friend and me;
Is’t not enough to torture me alone,
But slave to slavery my sweet’st friend must be?
Me from myself thy cruel eye hath taken,
And my next self thou harder hast engrossed;
Of him, myself, and thee I am forsaken,
A torment thrice threefold thus to be crossed.
Prison my heart in thy steel bosom’s ward,
But then my friend’s heart let my poor heart bail.
Whoe'er keeps me, let my heart be his guard;
Thou canst not then use rigor in my jail.
And yet thou wilt, for I being pent in thee,
Perforce am thine, and all that is in me.

I. Hate. Sonnets.

I really hate sonnets. Especially Shakespearean sonnets. But, whadda ya know, my English teacher made each of us one. Great. And it was due today. I know I failed at the "write it down off book" because I could NOT remember the last three lines for my life. I could remember the last three WORDS, but not the last three LINES.
I guess was ahead of some of my friends, though. One thought it was due on Thursday, so she hadn't even picked one out until the block before. Two others knew what theirs were, and one sort of knew hers and one couldn't remember hers for her life. And those were HER words, not mine. So I guess I was ahead of at least some people, even though Sonnet 133 has to be the weirdestly worded sonnet in existence (and I KNOW that "weirdestly" is not a word, but I do not care). And ONLY William Shakespeare would come up with something like "Beshrew that heart that makes my heart to groan" and "And yet thou wilt, for I being pent in thee." ONLY Shakespeare. Not ONE other poet do I know of that can pull something like that off. ONLY him. I guess that's why so many people are like, "Shakespeare is such a great poet! YAY!" Why? Because you don't get anything he's saying, so therefore it must be profound? Not to a high schooler. Maybe not even to most adults does fifteenth-century-talk make ANY sense whatsoever. So BOO YA for being able to remember most of a sonnet.
But the rest of them need to go burn and die.

Renn Fest!!!!

Well, we went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday, and it was REALLY fun. I DID spend almost all of my budget, and yes, at least half of it was on food. But I DID get a really cool bodice for ten bucks, and at the store next door they were in the hundred-dollar range. Mind you, the store next door's bodices were quite a bit fancier. However, the bodice I got's just cooler because it hasn't got any crazy sort of Fleur-De-Lis-type fabric pattern or anything. It's just plain black with a few ribbons sewn onto it and ties on the shoulders. I like it. You can wear it as a vest, which is nice, or you could lace up the front and it'll look like you're wearing a corset, which is kind of cool.
I also got a really cool necklace. And we got our faces painted. Mine was a blue and black tribal sort of pattern that took up half my face. It looked really cool, even when I had to put my glasses back on. The thing went just below your eyebrow and on the bit of your nose right by your eye. I'm not sure what that's called.
We also did a huge photo op at the stockade, which is always loads of fun. The stockade is the place where you stick your head and your hands in the holes and look evil, because the stockade used to be a form of punishment, and you hang wooden signs around your neck with whatever your crime was. I decided that my crime was just being stupid. I don't really see how being stupid (well, it was 'fool' on the sign) is criminal, but whatever.
And we also *tried* to learn to juggle, but it didn't work out so well.
But, all in all, it was a pretty fun day.
And we took pictures with a whole ton of the actors who were like part of the King's court and stuff. And with Henry the VIII, of course.
It was REALLY fun.

YAY!!

So my friend got this ukulele, and it's officially the coolest thing ever. Her favorite song to play on it, I think, is Build Me Up Buttercup by I'm-not-sure-who. Anyhoo, here are the lyrics, because I LOVE that song. Even though it's really nerdy and all that jazz.

Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart
"I'll be over at ten", you told me time and again
But you're late, I wait around and then
I went to the door, I can't take any more
It's not you, you let me down again
(Hey, hey, hey!) Baby, baby, try to find
(Hey, hey, hey!) A little time and I'll make you mine
(Hey, hey, hey!) I'll be home
I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
Ooo-oo-ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart
You were my toy but I could be the boy you adore
If you'd just let me know
Although you're untrue, I'm attracted to you all the more
Why do I need you so
(Hey, hey, hey!) Baby, baby, try to find
I need you, more than anyone, baby
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart

lunchtime post!

Well, I just got back from Creative Writing, and it was definitely one of the most fun classes I have ever had ever. We did one of those sentence story things, and it basically ended up being a variation on "the princess and the frog," except with a weird hawk - frog - dog - fuzzball thingy. And then she kissed him and then he had to go save her from a dragon because her parents have to be all proper about the whole cliche about getting married ONLY after you get saved by a handsome prince, and then they lived happily ever after. And she had a unibrow for most of the story. The first half of the story is kind of hard to explain, but basically the prince was a jerk and then his frog - hawk - dog - fuzzball minions beat him up because the princess fed him to her dog but it didn't work and then he grew radioactive tentacles because of some sort of radioactive something in the teeth of the dog. And then she saved him and then the unibrow went away and then she kissed him and then he turned into a prince and then he saved her from the dragon and blah blah blah and they lived happily ever after, the end. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
It was really fun. We were all cracking up while we were making it up, because things are just funnier when they're happening, just because they're awesome like that. So that's my story from today.

YAY! A POST!

I know I haven't done an official post in a while. This is my excuse: I have gotten into journaling again (as in, a LOT more-I've been doing about 15 pages a day), and so, when I'm writing in my journal during my free blocks, doing homework at home, and doing other stuff the rest of the time, I have had barely any time to blog. That and the fact that I'm rarely on the computer now. I'm not sure why. It's probably all the homework. I hate homework.
But today was an early release, so I was able to get home WAY early and so I have WAY more time to do stuff than I do on most days, so I am WAY happy right now.
And my friends can come to the Renn Fest, which is pretty flippin awesome. Both the part about my friends coming and the part about going to the Renn Fest. And the part about the Renn Fest just being awesome.
The one we go to is in Maryland, and it's quite fun. Mind you, most of it's just endless shopping, but endless shopping is good for the economy, right? So who cares that we are probably going to blow out all our college funds and all the money that all three of us made over the summer? Okay, that would really stink if we did that, I admit. But you get the point, right? It's hard to have fun at the Rennaisance Festival if you DON'T spend at least twenty dollars in all while you're there. Mind you, it's hard NOT to spend at least twenty bucks while you're there.
Since I'm SO PSYCHED about the Renn Fest, HERE is the link. (you click on the "here." fyi.)
I'm going now. LATER!

Creative Writing Story

This is part of the story I'm working on in Creative Writing. I'm not done with it yet, which is why it's only part. So here it is.

I guess it all started with Dave's clarinet. I was fifteen, and we had gone camping-me, my dad, my mom, and my dad's best friend, Dave, and his daughter, Julie, who was my age, at the beginning of the summer after my freshman year in high school. Julie and I, we didn't exactly get along.
Dave had brought his clarinet that weekend. I'm not sure why. Anyway, near lunch time, Dave went out in the woods a little ways and started to play. Curious, I followed him. He walked deeper into the woods and I followed like a puppy, entranced by the music. Then he came to a clearing and sat down, still playing. I followed him and watched his fingers dance over the silver keys.
When he finally stopped, I asked, "Will you teach me?"
He tried to, but I was terrible at it. My fingers didn't fit the keys right, but I blew anyway. The sound that emerged was nothing like the sound that Dave had conjured from the tube. Dave's sound was flowing and beautiful; mine was loud, squeaky, and obnoxious. I tried again, to no avail. I was determined to get it, no matter how long it took.
However, Dave had other plans. He pulled the instrument out of my hands and said, in a ver annoyed tone, "Maybe we should try again another time." He stormed off, leaving me in the clearing alone.
For a little while, Iwas happy by myself in the clearing. Then a mounting panic began to rise in my chest. Where was our campsite? Where was my family? How would I get back to the tent? I began to cry quietly. A bear would probably eat me or something out here.
More time passed, and nobody came for me. I began to cry harder, blended with cuss words and tirades uttered under my breath. They had surely all forgotten about me, which, of course, was probably the entire point of the entire enterprise.
Dark began to fall. I finally forced myself to get up and move and try and make a shelter of some sort, so I didn't get eaten by anything.
Then I noticed a small flute by my left hand. I don't know how it got there. It was small and carved out of some sort of dark wood, with little flowers and vines carved on it. The middles of some of the flowers were hollow-the holes where you put your fingers.
I picked it up and blew on it. It made it a low sort of sound, kind of like an owl. I blew it again, and kept blowing. For some reason, this was a lot easier than playing clarinet. The flute seemed to fit my hands perfectly. I began to randomly put my fingers on and off the various holes, and somehow made a melody.
I don't know how long I stayed in the clearing, playing the flute. I just looked up at one point and saw two figures that were glowing slightly in the dark. I stopped playing and started getting scared again. Dark had really fallen now, and in addition, there were two eerily glowing figures in front of me. They looked like humans about my age-one was a boy, and one was a girl. Both had slanted, bottle green eyes and black hair.
"Well, it took you long enough," the boy said.
"Eohu, don't be rude," the girl scolded.
"Well, we've been here for a good hour and a half," Eohu complained. "Can we go now? I'm bored."
"No, dummy, we have to deliver the message," the girl chided.
I watched this interaction with confused amazement. These two figures were probably twins, but what did some creepy glowing pair want with me in a forest clearing in the dead of night?
"All right," Eohu sighed. "Hurry up."
"We have to do it properly," the girl insisted.
"Oh, all RIGHT," Eohu moaned.
"Lily," the girl addressed me, and I started. How did she know my name? "You have been bestowed with a flute that has certain powers. YOu have been brought to this clearing by our colleague, Dave. You need to hear some very important information."
"What?" I asked, curious.
"Okay, Lheada, enough with formality," Eohu said. "Basically, we're here to tell you that you're a fairy, and we need your help in saving the queen."
"WHAT?" I nearly yelled.
"See, I TOLD you we had to do it properly," Lheada told him.
"Hang on... what?" I asked, unable to take it in. Fairy? A queen? A fairy queen? What was going ON here? "Give it to me again, slowly."
Eohu groaned. "You... are... a... fairy," he said, as if I was both very deaf and very slow. "We... need... YOU... to... help... US."
"Are you fairies, too?" I asked.
"Yes," Lheada said.
"So why do you need me?" I wondered.
"Because you know stuff that we don't," she explained.
"Such as...?" I asked, still confused.
"Such as how to play that flute," Eohu interjected. "Only one person can play it."
"And since you grew up with humans, you can use logic," Lheada said.
"Not all humans can use logic," I said. "I'm terrible at it."
"But you also know certain types of defense that fairies never learn," Lheada explained. "Like how to beat people up with your fists and feet. We just use magic."
"Correction," Eohu interrupted. "I can use my fists and feet. You just use magic. I can fight just fine, thank you."
"And, so... why do you need me and my martial arts in order to save the queen?" I asked. "I defenitely can't wrestle trolls or beat up giants or anything."
"Trolls are over rated," Eohu said. "I nearly fought one once. And they're stupid as-"
"EOHU!" Lheada cut across him.
"What?" he protested.
"No cussing!" Lheada ordered.
"I wasn't going to!" Eohu complained.
"Yes, you were!" Lheada countered.
"Was not!"
"Were too!"
"Um..." I interjected tentatively, "Is this relevant?"
"Oh," Lheada said, returning to her poised state. "No, it isn't. Thank you for reminding us."

That's all I have time for right now. I'll be back in a bit to finish the rest.

oh, yeah.

And Saturday was Talk Like A Pirate Day.
And on Saturday, I got new shoes, and I had to give up the trusty Converses that I have had for the last two years and two months. The old ones were all drawn on and written on and geometry-formula-ified and colored in and fraying around the seam by the sole and everything, but the new ones are kind of nice. They're turquoise with layered yellow, pink, blue, yellow, purple, and pink, in that order, around the edges. And pinky purple laces. And they're freaking new. It's going to take a while to get used to them. But, on the other hand, I have another two years and two months (probably more) to write lyrics and algebra/ precalculus/ trigonometry (maybe) formulas on the toes and runes and mazes on the inside of the foot and color in the crosshatch thingies on the way front of the toes.
And, on Saturday (again), I got yarn. YAY YARN!!!!!!!
Needles + yarn + pencils + paper = my entire life so far.
I am NOT kidding.
And on Saturday night, me and my mom and our neighbor and her dog went up to the basketball court on the elementary school near our house and looked at the stars. It was quite fun, actually.
But, on Sunday, I had to acolyte. It was okay. All the candles got lit fine. And then I had to work. Which wasn't fun. Not really, anyway. Which means, of course, I couldn't journal and do all the stuff I like to do. Which means, of course, I wasn't all that happy when I was working, because of not being able to do anything fun. I am DEFENITELY not working at the pool next summer. Except for the part when I got paid many hundreds of dollars on my last paycheck.
I gotta go now, though.

back again.

I know I haven't posted in five days. I know it's 9:32 at night and I'm freaking tired because I had homework right after a really long, boring, and, frankly, rather stupid Girl Scout function thing. I know that I'm really going to be pessimistic in this entire post. But I wanted to say that I AM still here, however absent I have been over the last five days.
And I really wish my mom would get off my back about homework. I'm DONE, okay, mom? Or is DONE not in your vocabulary?
I'm excited about the Renn Fest.
This is the end of the post.
The end.

RENN FEST!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So on the 26th, I'm going to the Renaissance Festival with two of my friends (hopefully. They haven't responded yet.), and I am PSYCHED!!! I love the Renaissance Festival. Seriously. Even though everything is dead expensive, you don't have to buy clothes. You could get your face painted. Or your hair braided. Or you could get stuff like candles. Or honey. I remember when my friend and I went a few years ago, she got this really freaking awesome candle in the shape of a castle. It was really detailed and it was SO COOL!!! It was a square castle and the wicks were on the watch towers (I'm not sure what they're called. But it was cool.). Anyway, I am SUPER PSYCHED because we are going on PIRATE WEEKEND!!! And we all know how PSYCHED I'm going to be about that... Anyway, you can buy capes and sprite horns and flower wreaths and jewelry and Robin Hood hats in a zillion different colors and corsets and basically anything that would come from the European Renaissance. Even though, according to my chemistry teacher, the Festival itself is set more in the Dark Ages than the Renaissance. But, as he also said, who wants to go to the Dark Ages Festival? Let's face it, the Dark Ages Festival just sounds depressing. And very un-fun. And the Renaissance Festival just sounds cooler. And you can't abbreviate "the Dark Ages Festival." But you CAN call the Renaissance Festival the Renn Fest. Either way, I'm excited.
Even if my friends can't come.
It's the Renn Fest. And I missed it last year because of that STUPID FREAKING ENGLISH PROJECT!!!!!!!!! And I might have to miss it this year because of my Girl Scout Gold Award project prerequisites. But I'm NOT going to. I REFUSE to miss the Renn Fest this year.
Partially because I missed it last year, but partially because I'd just be really depressed if I didn't go. And I already invited my two friends.

Alrightie.

So I have FINALLY finished my homework. YAY ME! Now is The Time When I Should Be Cleaning My Room But I Don't Really Feel Like It So I'm Going To Blog Instead. And that's a really long title.
Okay, update. I like school so far. Except for the homework. I do NOT like homework. At all. My favorite classes are chemistry and creative writing because chemistry is interesting and creative writing...well, I like writing. And I like concert choir, just because it's choir and I like singing. My least favorite classes are probably math and gym, math because it's math and I hate math, and gym just because it's gym and it's not all that fun, even when, like today, I scored two points in kickball. It was sophomores against freshmen, and, let's just face it, the freshmen girls aren't that great in the sports department. I know that a lot of them play sports and stuff, but the same people who're playing field hockey and lacrosse are going to gym in flip flops. Plus my team was mostly guys, and the sophomore guys are just good at sports, period, because that's all they ever do. And we had the teacher on our team. Anyway, our team won, because the freshmen were never paying attention enough to get us out, and our team was playing like half the game because of the freshmen's lack of attentiveness. So that was okay.
Anyway, my least favorite part of school is the note taking, especially in chemistry. The teacher is awesome, I just hate that we have to take so many freaking notes all the time. But other than that and homework, school's pretty good. I'm going to post the story I'm working on in creative writing as soon as I'm actually done with it.

what to say?

Well, I don't know what to say. I'm serious. I don't. I had a piano lesson today. That was pretty good. Um....
Okay, I've somehow lost all incentive to write outside of class. I think it's because of all those chemistry notes. And the fact that I'm in HIGH SCHOOL and now have HOMEWORK. The homework level is getting sort of high, so I don't really have a load of time to sit down and write a proper journal entry or blog post, like I should be doing. Or rather, I WISH I could be doing. So I'm going to try to work on that. And I have to clean my room today. Poo. And I have homework today. Double poo. But, on the other hand, I don't have 8:20 tomorrow. YAY!
Okay, I'm going to work on that homework now.
DARN YOU HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!

Reflection-Mulan

Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
Or a perfect daughter
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?
Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my fam'ly's heart

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am
Though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

I seem to be on a Mulan Song Craze. Even though the song that's playing is the Cha Cha Slide.

I'll make a man out of you-Mulan

Let's get down to business--to defeat the Huns.
Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I ever met
But you can bet before we're through
Mister, I'll make a man out of you

Tranquil as a forest
But on fire within
Once you find your center
You are sure to win
You're a spineless, pale, pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll make a man out of you!

I'm never gonna catch my breath
Say good-bye to those who knew me
Boy I was a fool in school for cutting gym
This guy's got 'em scared to death
Hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim!

Be a man
You must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

Time is racing toward us till the Huns arrive
Heed my every order and you might survive
You're unsuited for the rage of war
So pack up, go home, you're through
How could I make a man out of you?

Be a man
We must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

Be a man
We must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

We got to sing it in English class!!! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sophomore year. Wow.

Well, I really can't believe that I'm now a Sophomore in high school. I really can't. It seems like just yesterday I was thinking how it would be a million years before my brother was a senior and I was a sophomore, and yet here we are. My brother is a senior and I'm a sophomore. How time flies.
Well, my mom just got a new DVD/ CD burner thingie, which is really nice because the one built into the computer doesn't really work that well. And right now, I have FINALLY gotten the chance to upload the footage from Family Camp, even though it's been a week since Family Camp. And it has been quite a week.
I like my classes, overall. Mind you, by June I'm probably going to be saying that I can't wait until summer because I can't STAND another second of chemistry and algebra and whatever happened to ancient civilizations, because I would be beyond caring. But as I'm currently not beyond caring just yet, I guess I should probably still be caring and wondering what happened to ancient civilizations and stuff in chemistry. Chem is actually kind of interesting. On Friday we did this really cool lab with FIRE!!! And in Ancient Civ we did drawings with in groups and then tacked them up on the wall and tried to guess what everyone else's drawing was. My group did a sort of favorite memories type thing, all rolled into one dude. We gave him a Mickey Mouse hat, because one of my friends went to Disney World, and we gave him a baseball shirt because the other friend liked playing baseball, but nobody guessed what mine was. Nobody suspected the flowers might be significant, signifying the flowers at my cousin's wedding. I caught them. So that's my story.
But I still don't get how algebra is gonna help me in real life. Seriously.

A Confession

Well, in church a while ago, the Senior Pastor admitted that he really liked the movie "that thing you do-" the Tom Hanks one with Liv Tyler that is about this (fictional) band called The Wonders that's set in the 1960's. And I saw it. And I'm in love with it. I don't care that it's weird or anything like that. I know it is. But it's freaking AWESOME. And now I have the title song stuck in my head. It's getting kind of annoying, but I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!
A while ago, I made a list of Movies and Musicals I Want to See. I don't remember all of it, but I remember some of it:
1. the Fantasticks
2. State Fair
3. The Karate Kid
4. The Matrix trilogy
5. Adam (not yet in theaters)
6. Confessons of a Shopaholic
7. The DaVinci Code *once I've finished reading it*

SCHOOL

well, we're back at school. The workload seems okay, so far, because we're only in the first week, and it'll probably get worse next week. Already I have had to write two essays (one was a legit essay, and one was just like, "TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF!") and actually have to use my free block productively. We've only been in school three days and I seriously hope that the workload increase will not be absolutely horrid, because I'll seriously kill something if it gets too bad. I'm not kidding. And even though I have only had one 8:20 class, I already hate it. Not the class itself, because chemistry is actually kind of interesting, but waking up and eating was really annoying because my dad was bugging me about FINISHING eating and said I was putting too much sugar in my coffee. Well, I'm SORRY if I need caffienne when I wake up now, because I am going to be going to school earlier than I ever have in my life. It's called HIGH SCHOOL, dad. And even though YOU went to Military School, I'm going to Hippie High and we do things differently. I am defienetely not taking an 8:20 next year. On the other hand, I'm really liking my English teacher, because she doesn't super over analyze everything. My English teacher last year made us analyze and discuss "Lord of the Flies" WAY too much last year, and my English teacher this year said we're not going to go too deep into "Into Thin Air." YAY!

Sunday, September 6, 2009

oh yeah

And by the way, I know I said that I caught some of it on video. I'm going to do a legit video (like with music and photos and everything) at some point.

the summary!

Well, I said I'd summarize when the song was done, and the song is done, so I'll summarize what happened at family camp. Mind you, I caught a lot of it on film, with the aid of my mother and my brother.
Anyway, Friday. We arrived at West River. It's a really awesome Methodist Retreat Center. They have just finished building a new dining hall, which is really nice on the inside, but on the other hand, it takes up a lot of of what used to be a really awesome field that was useful for football, ultimate Frisbee, and generally letting your kids run around like the lunatics you know they are. Anyway, now most of the field is gone to the Snazzy New Dining Hall. It really is snazzy, I just wish it had been behind the old one so we could have more space to run around crazy. Anyway, we get there, and then we have a cookout. And we eat food. And I film some of the kids running around crazy in the now-limited space, in order to upload it to the computer, slow it down, and set it to "chariots of fire," which I have not done yet. Anyway, I also interrogate some people ("so, _______, why are you psyched about family camp?" etc), and then eat food, and then film/ interrogate some more. Then we go inside for some icebreaker games/ make fools of ourselves/ have me film everyone looking really stupid and then putting it into a video. Then we go have a campfire, which usually happens on Saturday night, but it was decided that in order for more of the really little kids to get hyped up on chocolate and marshmallows, it was moved to Friday night. I really wish I had not dropped off the video camera in the room when I got my sweatshirt, because it would have been really funny to get a video of everyone singing, even if you could not see them. It would have been hilarious as a voice over.
Anyway, Saturday we wake up and then go eat and then hang out. I should have done some more filming, but I was lazy and I did not. Then we ate lunch and hung out some more. My dad and brother came for the day on Saturday, and I interrogated them. On film. After dinner, there was the square dancing, which was really fun. We had given an open invitation to the people from the other groups that were at West River at the same time we were, so some of them showed up and it was fun. My mom and brother and dad did some filming and photography during the dancing, because as much as I wanted to be a filmmaker, I wanted to actually get some exercise that day. That and the fact that I have a reputation for doing every dance for like three years now, so I COULD NOT not dance. Then, after the dancing, some people went to bed, then some people hung out and played games. Some other people and I played boggle, which was really fun.
This morning, I had staked out a spot before getting my food for breakfast, so I ended up sitting with a bunch of people from the other church. They were really nice, actually. We had a decent conversation about various things. Then I left because I had promised I would tag along with the little kid's nature walk, and I wanted to do some filming, etc, and I wanted to make sure I had a decent battery on the camera. So we did the walk, and then we did a church service out in the same area where the campfire circle is, and then we hung out and I interrogated people, and then we did a circle, and then we went home. The end.

family camp

Well, I am back from family camp. And this means that, however much I wish it was not, school is starting in two days. Family camp was AWESOME. However, family camp means school is soon. But more about that later. In a new post, I will summarize what happened at family camp, but first, I am going to finish listening to this AWESOME song from Pirates of the Caribbean that is playing on the Cinema Music Channel, available from Verizon FiOS. "I See Dead People In Boats," Hans Zimmer, 2007, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
It is over now.

ah, the joys of the FRIKKIN COLD!!

Well, I picked up a shift from someone at the pool, which means my work total for this week alone, just at the pool, is 25 hours, which is, I think, more than I had in all for the last pay period. Thus, I am getting a LOT of money this pay period. However, there still is the issue of IT'S FREAKING COLD OUT!!! And the issue of I'M GETTING FROZEN SOLID EVERY TIME I GET OUT OF THE POOL AFTER SWIMMING THE LANE ROPES!!! I'm serious, I have not been this cold during work since I had to shadow people way back in May. And I keep forgetting that it's going to be cold, because my shifts always seem to start at two, and it's reasonably warm out at two in the afternoon on a somewhat sunny day. So I'm always cold by the time my mother comes to drop off my dinner. Note to self: PUT SWEATSHIRT IN BACKPACK BEFORE LEAVING!!! On the other hand, on Monday, we were getting paid to do absolutely nothing for a while because there was nobody at the pool. It was crazy. But it was fun. That's the way it's been this week at the pool, because the weather is cooling down and so only the swimaholics and the eight and unders are going swimming. I got to clean the bathrooms almost by myself last night, too. I was the only girl guard on the 2-9 shift, so I got to clean the bathrooms mostly by myself. The snack bar girl helped a bit, though, which helped. And I was STILL done at almost the same time as the guys. I would have beaten them, except they had the squeegee, so I couldn't squeegee until they were done. But I was close!! That's what matters: I was CLOSE!

I love slow days at the pool

Well, here in The Last Week Before School Starts, I am working almost EVERY day this week (with the exception of Sunday, Friday, Saturday, and possibly Wednesday), and I am NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT! On the other hand, I AM getting paid. And since it IS september, and it IS only about 70 degrees out, yesterday was pretty slow. Which was nice. We went one guard the entire time yesterday, and there was one period where we were running NO guards because there was nobody there except for us. So, basically, we were getting paid to play Bingo and hang out. It was awesome. I hope it keeps up like this, so we can get paid to do nothing worthwhile. Which is nice. AND I got to swim the lane ropes across the pool when we closed the high dive, which I have not done in FOREVER, and which I LOVE doing. I do not know WHY I love swimming the lane ropes (maybe I miss swimming. I don't know.), but I do. It really makes my day. Especially when it's hot out. On the other hand, when I got out, it got cold ten minutes later and I had to ask my mom to bring a sweatshirt with dinner. The manager ate most of my dinner because I was not hungry because of the fact that I had gotten some snacks from the snack bar. I really love slow days. I really do. On the other hand, sometimes it isn't as fun to get paid to hang out and do nothing. Especially when "nothing" really is nothing. But for the most part, it's fun.
