NaNo Rant

With four days until NaNoWriMo, I've a good excuse to be ranting about the Month In Which I Will Be Getting No Sleep (MoInWhiIWiBeGeNoSle... never mind).

Things I need for National Novel Writing Month:
1. A plot (yes!)
2. a place to write (yes!)
3. something to write with (journal and pens! YES!)
4. Time to write (um... this may be a problem)
5. a reasonably free schedule outside of school (I'm WORKING on it. Hopefully college apps will be done by Halloween. That's what I am planning on, anyway. And if they aren't... this is why some president invented Thanksgiving break)
6. A National Novel Writing Month survival kit (this is somewhat in place. Will work on that).

I think my plot could do with some room for lunacy, but it will have to do. It's the most complex thing I have ever dared do, but I greatly hope that I'll be able to pull it off. For my own sanity and not losing all that sleep for nothing.

Anyway, my National Novel Writing Month Survival Kit currently consists of the following (in case you were wondering):
1. the writing journal (in which I will be writing the novel)
2. pens (with which I will be writing the novel)
3. water. Lots and lots of water.
4. My iPod (I still have to make the NaNoWriMo playlist, but I have time for that)
5. A corner in the library. Unfortunately, unlike last year, my little corner has been claimed, so I'm going to have to find a different one. But there are many corners.
Aaand that is my survival kit this year. Huzzah!

I guess now is the time where I tell you my plot. Or something to that effect. Or something.

Okay, well, here it is.

Romeo Bright is a GIRL who has a way with words. Her parents are assassinated by ninjas from another planet. These ninja assassins chase her through a portal that randomly showed up in the closet under her stairs (unintentional Harry Potter reference!), and she finds herself in this land called Mercanova. Then she meets Demetrius Orsyn when he crash-lands his ship by accident (somewhat-accidental-but-still-obligatory Star Wars Reference; Demetrius is kind of like Han Solo, except different). Then they hang out, and are joined by Puck Ronwa (a fairy pirate!) and Morgan I-don't-have-a-last-name-for-this-character (a wizard).
Morgan knows the territory so he explains what's been going on - first, that Romeo's princess, and second, that Iago's been taking over the country by way of manipulation and force and is probably going to kill the royal family sometime in the near future (Iago's a villain who's in a position of extreme power. He can do that). He knows that Romeo's in Mercanova (the ninjas told him), and he wants her for her words (because she's got an undiscovered talent for making what she says actually happen). Then the four protagonists are attacked by orcs and decide they need to learn how to fight. They also plan on invading Iago's palace sometime in the near future. So they work on doing both *cue chance for romantic subplot between Demetrius and Romeo.*
While commencing Operation Invade Iago's Palace, Demetrius sees Princess Hero on her balcony and pulls a Romeo and Juliet (obligatory Shakespeare plot reference) and starts reciting sonnets (which Romeo, being a Shakespeare nut, has taught him), and distracts everyone *cue pissed Romeo*. Then he gets pulled back and they invade and split up into two pairs, and then Morgan gets captured and the other three leave *cue some sort of magical outburst from Puck, who has never shown the ability of having magical outburst before*.
Demetrius decides the next morning that he is going to be all HEROIC and go off and save Hero, but in doing so he gets himself captured. Both Romeo and Puck realize that they have extreme magical capabilities, and develop them for a few days as well as developing a plan, and go off to rescue Morgan AND Demetrius. Puck gets trapped in Morgan's dungeon when he is looking for the wizard *potential romantic relationship - remains to be seen* and realizes Demetrius is in there as well, which means that Romeo is going to get captured as well (Puck and Romeo split up because of their *maybe* romantic affections for certain parties which they were trying to rescue).
But Romeo is NOT captured; she meets her siblings (Hero and twin brother Sebastian) for the first time, and she and Sebastian do some legit fighting and escape. Romeo is nervous about going back in but Demetrius insists that she goes in anyway because she is a HERO and there is this SWORD that only belongs to a HERO *cue Romeo making an angry pun about how Hero should have the sword because of her name* and that the sword is NEAR and it is about to claim HER and blah blah blah.
Anyway, they go in, save everyone, have a showdown, beat people up, and have a party.
The end.
