English, again

Well, this seems to be my official English-class-note-taking place. Honestly, I will be SO glad when this is all over. Really. With the black belt test on Saturday and Mom freaking out more than me about this and giving me a really hard time about it and school and the fact that I have low C's in three classes and whatnot, I'm out of it. To the extreme.
But on the upside, my parents aren't here. But I still have to do homework for the duration of their not being here. :(. They're going to my brother's basketball game/buying stuff for dinner. And I'm here. I would love this time if I didn't have this project and a mom that would hunt me down and kill me if I didn't do my work, because she KNOWS whether I've done the work or not. I'm serious. She always knows. It's really annoying.
Well, today I'm going to continue the note taking from yesterday. Wait, no, scratch that. I'm going to do the plot summary for the book I read. THEN I'm going to do the note taking. I'm going to purposely draw this out so I don't have to note-take. Anyway...
So For Matrimonial Purposes is about this girl called Anju. She was born and raised in India, and the entire book is about her trying to find a good dude to get married to. The story starts out when she's 33, and she's at some relative's wedding (I think it's her cousin), and there's this guy who looks interested in her. Her mom is all psyched about this because most girls are married by the time they're 25, usually younger, so the fact that Anju is 33 and attracting someone is the best thing ever to her mom, because most of the okay guys are already taken. So her mom arranges to meet the guy and his family, so they do, because that's what they do in India. Well, they meet and the guy seems like a total jerk, even though his prospects are great and Anju's mom is happy and very pleased that Anju might FINALLY get married. But Anju does have some say in it and she puts in that she really, really, really, really, REALLY doesn't like him, and she doesn't want to move to Africa with him, either, to which her mom is all like, "oh, but you went to America, why not Africa?" And Anju's like, "HELLO!!! Africa is like eighty bazillion times less developed than America!!!" So anyway, her mom and dad insist that Anju take another week or two off work in America to look for a husband in India. Anju's mom looks everywhere, including the classifieds. They have dating classifieds in India that seem really similar to those in the US, except it's more like, okay, here's my info, here's a picture, call me, and if they get the picture of the candidate and don't like them, then there's no second call. Kind of like in the US. Except without the multiple dates between meeting and marriage proposal. Anyway, Anju gets a picture of a guy who seems all right, and her mom calls, but there's no second call. So that's the end of part one. Part two starts when Anju is in her early or mid twenties, and she tells you all about how all her friends have gotten married and she was the outsider and everything and her mom was really desperate to get Anju married because of Anju's brothers, who were in the prime years of marriage (they were like 21 and 23 or some way early twenties like that), and the can't get engaged until Anju is firmly set to get married. So Anju's mom sees everybody from seers to swamis to everyone. One astrologer says that Anju's luck and star chart would have it that the planets were aligned in a way that would only allow her marriage after the age of 26, which is the equivalent to mid-forties in terms of marriage in India. So eventually Anju gets fed up and asks if she can go to New York and get a second degree at NYU, and after much complaining and denial and whatever else, her parents let her go. There she meets a girl kind of like herself, but the difference is that the friend has a white boyfriend (scandalous for India), and the friendship eventually wanes. Then Anju meets an okay white guy named Jeff, who she likes, but he turned out to be an idiot, ad then he ditched her. Then Anju finishes getting her degree and gets an apartment of her own (she'd been staying with her aunt and uncle), and then she gets a job in fashion advertising and does rather well. After a while, she gets to go all over as a representative from her company agency thing, and her first job with that is in Paris. She manages the Paris show really well, and soon she's going all over the world and having a load of adventures, and freaking out her parents with all this traveling because they think that the outer world is dangerous. So around that time, Part Two ends and Part Three begins. Part one was a lot of setting up Anju's situation, Part Two was Anju figuring out who the heck Anju actually was, and Part Three is Anju finally finding the right guy. And yes, she does, eventually, find the right guy. Part Three zooms forward in time, back to when Anju is 33 and *still* single. She meets an okay guy when she flies over to India *again* for some family or friend's wedding. He lives in London, but after a couple meetings, her dad asks his friend in London to investigate his background, and he learns that the guy has a girlfriend and is living with her and is expecting to pop the question any day now. With the help of an astrologer and her friend in the US, Anju convinces her parents to let her go back to the US. The friend looked up some decent Indian guys in the US, and Anju paid the astrologer to say that Anju wouldn't be able to find the right guy in India, she had to go off into the world to find him and she had to find him on her own. So they let her go. Later on, Anju goes on some Indian dating/marriage websites and finds some decent guys. One guy seems all right, and they email each other and arrange for him to call her. He calls, and they talk, and they seem to be getting on okay until Anju says that she's living ALONE in New York, not with her parents, as he is doing in Texas. After that, he doesn't call back. Then Rohan comes into the picture. Rohan is a friend of a friend, lives in LA, and an hour away from his parents who call him a gazillion times a day, and he overall seems like a nice guy. Anju flies out to LA, partially to meet him and partially because her boss was thinking of opening another branch of their company agency thing in LA. So Anju flies out and meets Rohan, who is extremely awesome. When she flies back to New York, she thinks that she might actually have found the right guy. Rohan doesn't really want their parents to be controlling the relationship, so he asks that she tell her parents as little as possible. So she says that there is a guy, but that's it. So Anju's boss decides that yes, indeed, she WILL open that second branch in LA, and Anju is qualified enough to go lead the operation. So Anju goes, allowing for plenty of evenings to go out with Rohan. Eventually Anju has to go back to India for some other wedding or something. Rohan calls a lot, and all Anju has ever told her parents is that there was a guy and yes, he was Indian. Well, a couple nights into her stay in India, Rohan calls and they talk and then he proposes. Over the phone. She says yes, her parents are happy, her brother gets married two weeks later, she gets married two weeks after that, and all is well. The end.
Well, I succeeded in what I set out to do. I am aware that I included every detail that I could remember about the book, even though we were only supposed to do a plot overview. So the overview is that Anju is an Indian girl living in America and trying to find a decent guy, whether in India or America (but most defiantly Indian), to get married to. She tries and fails many times. But she eventually finds an okay guy. The climax is the Paris fashion show. Or when Raju (the dude who lives in London) is found to already have a girlfriend. I'm not sure which. But probably Raju.
Funny how that works. I spend 45 minutes typing up a summary and then summarize the summary in 2 minutes. Wow. But I did what I set out to do, and now I'm pretty sure this is one of the longest entries that I've ever written. I like writing. But I am not going to post any of my stories because all my stories are really bad and are completely irrelevant to the topic that this blog has come to represent. But I don't care. I'm still not going to post any stories, though. Just because. And also because last year's English teacher still has my journal. Last year's English teacher is really nice. This year's isn't.
Anyway...................
What I have concluded about the topic I am researching is that the main issue that Indians living in America have with love marriages is letting their parents down and not living up to what they seem to need to live up to. That's what I see in this. Well, I'm going to go now. An extra 20 minutes of freedom! Whoop!!

agjaleij ;waoejrwa;oi j

Serously, I give up. I can't do it anymore. I'm not going to the black belt test. I can't break three boards like I have to for one technique. I can't even break one. I can't even come close to breaking one. And my dad was absolutely no help. I can't do anything. I know my life shouldn't revolve around my capability to break boards, but I honestly thought that I was stronger than this. Seriously. I mean, I could always break boards before. Why stop now? Now I'm a lame teenager who has no muscle to speak of and everything to complain about and can't see the worth in life because I'm too blinded by the sullen acceptance of my own lameness. Black belts aren't lame. Black belts are on top. And since I'm nearer to the bottom rung, I shouldn't go to the test.
I think the difference is I haven't been building up the shoulder muscles that I need to do the breaks and that's why I can't do it. Not only that, I haven't been practicing. And now I'm not going to the test. It's my desicion, not the instructor's, not dad's, not mom's, not Lydia's, mine. And I choose not. I can't learn to break three boards in a week. I can't do anything well. Knitting is easy and anyone can learn. Singing also. And I could never really act. I only got lead roles over the summer because all the other people were like ten. I know most of the forms, but so what? I know most of the one steps, but who cares? Board breaking is probably the most useful thing that could come out of tae kwon do, and if I can't do that, it's not worth going to the test. Really.
I feel really lame saying this, but it's true. I mean really. When am I ever going to need any of the skills I know now except for typing? I should probably just go and get a job at McDonald's and then fail at life because I was never worth anything. I don't WANT to work at McDonald's, but I'm the lame one in the family, so it's okay. While everyone else is out having a career and a life, I'll be stuck behind serving people meat ground into chemicals to make it taste right.
I know that people who read this (here meaning nobody) would be like, oh, no, you have potential, go out and amaze the world, or something, when I get all depressed like this, but then they wouldn't come up with anything when I ask how I'm supposed to amaze the world. Well, how? Knitting sixty stitches a minute? I can't do that. I can't do anything. And all of you know it.

English notes part 2

Just so I don't forget later, here's the link for this note session:
http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:RwVihkdEIm4J:listserver.njit.edu/pipermail/ais/2002q1/000064.html+arranged+marriage+for+%22indian+americans%22+in+america&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us

Traditionally in an Indian marriage, the woman moves in with the man for a joint family situation, and many Indian American females don't want to. Many parents forsee this and pressure their son into an arranged marriage. The author of the link I'm researching said that his friend from home got married to an Indian girl and explained that his mom introduced them and they started writing and then got married a while later. Apparently, the story behind these trends are all based on Hindu concepts of love and marriage, because apparently Lord Krishna loved Radha but married Rukmini, because he believed that love was different from marriage because in marriage it wasn't just the two individuals getting married but also the two families joining. Then the author of the link I'm researching says, and I quote, "This concept does not justify Indian male behavior in America." ??????. A law student who had been in the US for quite a while noticed that the Indian guys were dating Indian girls in the US but going back to India to get married to a different girl. So they fulfilled all their hopes and dreams about girls in the US and then went home and found a nice, docile wife. Well that's pleasant. Many Indian-American guys thought that their female counterparts were too independent and liberated and not interested enough in culture. They just aren't used to the attitude of the girls and want a person closer in personality to their moms.

Well, I am most certainly not done with research, so I'm going undercover and researching this week during my free block. Right now, however, I need to have some time to myself where research and mothers aren't involved. Later.

homework/aftermath

well, semi-formal was fun. They're going to murder me for saying this, but I'm kind of glad that a lot of my friends were there. I'm glad that two of my friends were there, though, because one was loud and fun enough for it to be contagious. And if my other friend hadn't been there, I wouldn't have danced at all. I can't really dance, but my friend was good enough to be a really bad dancer with me.
I'm not sure whether I said this before, but i sort of sprained my ankle on Thursday. So I wore dancer's heels. I wore them in Wizard of Oz. They're really comfortable for the first three hours, which is really all you typically need them for, and they have a lot of support, so my ankle didn't hurt until I took them off. So that was good.
Well, I have notes to take. And here they are:
Arranged marriage has been practiced all over South Asia for centuries, although it has evolved. When many migrated to the US, they brought with them the customs and traditions that they had grown up with. Now that their kids have gotten to that marriageable age, the way they will be married (arranged marriage or falling in love) has become an issue. Studies have shown that they negotiated the matter. Duty was important, but love was too. Okay pause for a second. MY MOTHER IS BEING THE BIGGEST MEANIE ON THE PLANET!! She wants this whole project-PowerPoint, book review, research, finding the right "artsy language" things to work with, finding all the proper stuff under all the proper headings and having them all neat and organized and ready to go by TOMORROW. Really, how does she expect me to do all that? She really has no idea when this project is due, does she? FYI, it's due on MARCH 23RD. NOT MARCH 8TH. I have a free block at school to work on it then. We went to the library yesterday and found good poems. And tomorrow is SUNDAY, so I can't clarify with my teacher on a few points, so actually finishing by tomorrow is absolutely impossible because the things I have to figure out are really important. Like the degree of relevance to the topic that the artistic language things have to be. And how exactly I can incorporate the blog into this, because I heard her telling some people that a blog would be a good way to do this. HOW am I supposed to do all that on a SATURDAY to have it finished by a SUNDAY when I don't even have school again until MONDAY? GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH. Mom isn't fair. I realize that she's looking out for me and stuff, but still. I know I have to study epically for my black belt test in a week, but that's okay. I have a free block. I can research then. I'm aware that our cousins are coming the week after that. That's okay. I can put together the majority of my project at school. Really. Because the SCHOOL has a person who is TRAINED to help with the technology bit of projects and stuff. And I'm pretty sure someone who is TRAINED to do stuff like that is going to be rather awesome at it. Or at least better than my mom. My mom went to school for something completely different. I don't see why she has to take over my life whenever I have a major project due. I get it. It's major. Doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing it without her. Just means that I'm going to spend a lot of time on it. She needs to understand that, I think. But really, I think that this project is the reason that I'm so mad all the time, because my mom's always bugging me to read this or study that or do this that way or hurry up and research or finish two weeks before the stupid project is even due. I think that it's causing a lot more stress than it's worth. Or maybe my English teacher designed it so my mom would annoy my brain out and then take out all my guts, too. If that's the real reason, then it's working absolutely perfectly. Anyway, moving back to the notes that I'm not supposed to be taking according to my mother who hates me....I can't focus on this. I just can't. I'm too worked up about it. I mean, I asked that I could have some time to chill so I could willingly start working on the project. Then I did. Then my mom wanted me to tell her what I was going to do with the project today. And then it all went downhill. So I think that my mom is being too involved in this. I think that she should make me work on it and then leave me alone. She shouldn't make me check in with her. That's the teacher's job. She's having specific meetings with us to check our progress. I prefer that way because that way you can say, oh I can't really find stuff for this certain thing, and then the teacher could be like, oh check this out, and then everything is okay because the teacher knows what she's doing and my mom is just looking everything up that might have the slightest relevance, and the teacher knows some more specific stuff that would have greater relevance. So I'm going to take the notes and ignore my mom if she comes in. And then I'll be done with the longest entry ever written by me. I'm going to a new website now... And here, the info is.... Some Indian Americans look down on Valentine's day, others love it, and others don't care but still pick up those tacky cards for their toddlers to hand out to their class. This variation is relevant to the Indian American population's feelings about love marriages and dating. The US census bureau cites about 1/3 of the Asian Indian population being between the age of 20-34, the largest age group, in other words. The young Indian Americans are in a tug-of-war between tradition and what they want, between arranged marriages and love matches. But among the Indian Americans there is this thing called "marriage phobia"-preconceived negative ideas about Indian American women born in the US, like the party girls and the career-focused super over achiever or the really independent girl. There are notions about guys-the guy who has dated everyone, the parent-idolizer who won't go anywhere with anyone without the say-so of the parents, or the I'm-better-than-you kind of dude. With all the misinterpretations, they don't get married until a lot later, and by then they are way to comfortable with their ways and have a hard time adjusting to married life. An Indian American woman complained that there weren't a lot of Indian American men in her age range that share her Vedic values (the Vedas are an epic collection of ancient Sanskrit writings that are important in Hinduism), but on the other hand, a lot of the Indian guys can't communicate well and can't handle a girl who might actually have a job. An Indian-American guy says that failing to live up to the pre-set-up set of values and society's censure and the loss of their authentic Indian-ness that makes a lot of parents and some young adults look for spouses for them/kids in India instead of America. That same guy broke up with his steady girlfriend of five years to look for a girl in India. Many Indian-Americans are in a state of unsurity because they don't know whether they should go with their parents, date, look for themselves, look for only Indians/Indian-Americans, only look for a certain religion, take advantage of their relatives all over or avoid them at all costs, search the internet or meet people on the street or something else on the probably epic list. That is it for that website, and that was probably the most useful thing ever. The link is http://www.khaasbaat.com/feb2006/mentalhealth.htm
So, moving right along...
this next link (I copied and pasted a load of links onto a word document, having only skimmed them while searching) I put as "best one yet", so if this link is so good, and since I don't want to bore my eyes out later when doing the actual compiling for the actual presentation, I am going to go into a new post. And I am going to work for longer than an hour from whence I started, because I got interrupted several times. So here I go.

i'm in a good mood for once!!

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Fridays. Especially when it is finally above forty degrees outside and I can listen to random energy music and the majority of the snow is gone and it is sunny and I just had ice cream for the first time since September (how did I LIVE?) and tonight is a dance that seems like it's going to be all right for once and my brother is not here to bug me and I had a lot of sugar can you tell?
Anyway, I am in a good mood. I LOVE Fridays. And I mean LOVE! Really, I can go on forever about the glory of Fridays. And of course, the swim coach that I used to have somewhat of a crush on (notice the past tense. Okay, I still like him...a little...) FINALLY accepted my friend request on Facebook, so that is rather awesome. AND it is just one of those days where nothing seems to go want to go wrong. I mean, I FINALLY was able to hit that high G during practice for my audition for the descant in one of the songs in choir, so that is awesome, too. Today is just one of those days when you feel on top of the world and nothing is going to bring you down no matter what. OOH and my bio teacher, who has been out for the last three months on maternity leave came in today during bio (go figure) with her baby. The baby is really cute. She was sleeping when the teacher came in, but she was still REALLY adorable. And I mean REALLY adorable. It kind of reminds me when my old youth group leader was still around and his son was about the same age, maybe a bit older, as the bio teacher's baby, and I was hanging out in the nursery and I got to hold him. That was when I still had like three feet of hair, and he started playing with it, and it was the cutest thing ever. Anyway, I am rambling. But it is okay. It is Friday, remember? And I am in a good mood. I have said that like fifty times, haven't I? Well, I am in a good mood. Can you tell?
Today was just a day for fun. Or it felt like it. Because it was FINALLY WARM!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is hard for me to feel bad or bored when it is warm out and you can just feel spring coming. I know it sounds corny, but it is true. I just can not. And tonight is the semi-formal. So I can wear a dress over jeans, which I have been wanting to do since forever. I mean, I did it after West Side Story, but that is different. The dress I am wearing tonight doesn't pinch. Well, the dress I'm wearing tonight was my backup dress for West Side Story, but we decided on the other one because the other one's blue, which was the color that the Jets were supposed to be wearing. This one's green. I like this one better. Or maybe it's just that I've gotten SO sick of the blue dress.
Yesterday, I landed a kick weird in tae kwon do and now my ankle kind of hurts. But it's nothing major. I can walk, at least. It just kind of hurts to walk. Sometimes. So tonight I'm wearing the coolest pair of heels ever that I bought after Wizard of Oz-they're bright red, but they're dancer's heels, so they give a lot of support. Plus they're a LOT more comfortable than the West Side Story heels. And because they're dancer's heels, they were comfortable from day one. And they're still comfortable. Plus they make me like two inches taller. They look kind of seventeenth-century-ish, but whatever. I'm going to be wearing pants under the dress, and I'm only going to show people the heels if they ask if I'm wearing heels. Which, of course, is going to be everybody. And everyone is probably going to ask where in the world I got heels like THAT, and where I got heels in RED. I mean, honestly, how many people wear bright red heels on a regular basis?
I remember on the second night of West Side Story, I was talking to the director after the show, and he said, "Well, one more night of performing!" And I'm like, "ONE MORE NIGHT IN HEELS!!!" Then the director was like, "COME ON!! You have your whole life ahead of you!!!" And in my head, I'm just like, "you've never tried walking in two and a half inch heels, have you?" Because man, dancing in those heels was freakishly hard and freakishly annoying. They pinched my toes. A lot.
Well, I guess what I meant to say to him was, "ONE MORE NIGHT IN THESE HEELS THAT ARE SO FREAKING UNCOMFORTABLE!!!"
Man this song I'm listening to is rather amazing. Big Strong Man by Carbon Leaf=best song ever. Well, right now it is.
And I have to go work on my stuff now. Or at least I should. But I REALLY don't want to. But I'm going now anyway. bye.

English quotes

I am BACK!!!! I am awar that the time is not 1:30. It's not even 2:30. It's later than that. I am also aware that I said I was going to work endlessly on my English project because this was an early release day. But having fun in life is important too, and that was what I was doing. But I AM here, so I CAN say that I DID work on my English thing. Which is the part that matters. So here I go. Quotes from Indian Americans about marriage.

This really isn't working.

an hour later.....
Seriously. It's not.
I've been working at this for an hour basically, with a ten minute bathroom/mom-is-back-and-interrogating-me break, but other than that, I haven't found a single decent lead. *GROAN*. :P. Will continue research, but don't expect anything.

English project (again)

GUESS WHAT??????????? Remember all the quotes and stuff that I did a couple days ago for my English thing? They are completely IRRELEVANT, as I found out today when I did a check-in with my teacher. SO I get to start ALL OVER AGAIN!!! WAHOOO!!! (not). Anyway...I have to get quotes RELEVANT to my search topic, not just quotes from Indian people, I have to get quotes from Indan people and American people and Indian American people about marriage stuff. So here we go.

Love is an endless mystery, because it has nothing else to explain it.~Rabindranath Tagore (poet. PWN!!!)

Well, this isn't going so well. So what I'm going to do is, since I haven't got a whole lot of time, and I have an early release tomorrow (YAAAAY!!! but you're probably going to be able to guess what I'm going to say...)I'm going to use the spare three hours that would have otherwise been used for useless boredom at school(well, not choir. choir is rather useless, except for the part where I'm super hugely musical, but it's FUN) I'm going to use the time for useless boredom at home. *ahem* I mean, I'm going to use the time in a productive manner and find about eighty bazillion quotes from Indian Americans about marriage. And THEN spend the rest of the time doing whatever I feel like doing. Wait, I'll be SO stressed out about EVERYTHING that I'm going to spend the entire three extra hours doing my quotes and not have time for ANYTHING ELSE!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!!

Okay, not going to do that. But I'm going to use TWO of the hours. Or ONE of the hours. But not ALL of the hours. That would be HORRIBLE.

fashion....?

Well, I was just reading over some fashion links on the AOL home page, and I must say, not having flash can be rather annoying. I know, I know, I'm not much of a designer in the ways that those people are, and I probably will never get past knitting the back of some pattern that I found that was supposed to be a child's sweater, but still. It is kind of interesting. I can't design for my LIFE, and I don't really like following trends, but still, it's kind of interesting to see what the designers come out with so if their stuff ever ends up making it into any of the stores I go to then I know what to look for when I mix and match. But I don't like shopping. Unless it's book shopping. Or yarn shopping. Or anything with fiber, paper, or ink I am SO there.
But what I think is really sad is the state of the models' bodies. I know that skinny is really the thing, but to me they look dead unhealthy. Wait, minus the unhealthy. They look dead on their feet. It's really sad. I mean, I don't care if someone's skinny, but most of the skinny people I know have been skinny since forever ago, so that's different. The world of models is like, "you have to weigh ten pounds or forget about it." That is just SICK. Really SICK. Honestly, I'd prefer to weigh what I am now. I'm not saying how much that is, but I'm saying it's over a hundred. Which I think is perfectly reasonable, because I SAW the chart in the doctor's office, and my weight is smack in the middle of the "healthy" section. Or somewhere in the healthy section, anyway. Because if anything I'm probably NOT overweight. It just looks like it. Because I wear really baggy sweatshirts all the time. But I like the really baggy sweatshirts. They're really nice. And warm. And comfortable. But enough of that.
WHY, I wonder, is it so cool to be so drastically skinny? WHY would anyone WANT to do that to themselves? I mean, it's one thing to be skinny but still have some muscle, but most models are just......*shudder*.
Well, for once in my life, I ACTUALLY brought the SAME PROJECT to school and ACTUALLY worked on it for the SECOND DAY IN A ROW!!!!! Can you believe it?
Well, I'm never going to get on the runway, that's for sure. That's all I have to say. And if I DO get on the runway, I'm only going to be a plus size model (not going to happen anytime soon because I'd have to gain epic amounts of weight) or a designer (again, not happening. I can't design anything more than a color sceme, and that's not much.). So the most likely thing that's going to happen to me is I'm going to work at Starbucks and then write a book about it. And then get married to some dude with epic amounts of money and become an actor. Not really, but oh well.
In reality, I'm probably going to end up being a journalist or writer of some sort, probably fantasy. Fantasy is easy because you can make anything happen. And fantasy is a LOT more fun than reality most of the time.
But still, I'm fashionably challenged. But really, I don't care. If I got to meet a designer, I would pick Christian Siriano, because he's the only designer I know about. Plus he's crazy awesome. And his stuff is crazy amazing. Which is totally amazing. And he seems really fun. But that doesn't take away from the fact that I am epically fashionably challenged. But maybe if I met Christian Siriano he could help me. I mean, true, he's epically flamboyant some of the time, but I'm willing to be epically flamboyant some of the time. Just not as epically flamboyant as he is, I admit. But still. I'm willing to wear lime green chucks that come halfway up my thighs with rainbow laces and rainbow socks with shorts and tie-die, right? So how hard could it be to get along with Christian Siriano?
Oh well, I am still allowed to dream. In the meantime I have to go to dinner.

More bloody notes

Today I'm going to do some more note taking. FUN!!!!

So I'm on the same website I was on before-I did not finish earlier, I only got about halfway through. So now here I am, finishing it in hopefully less than an hour so I can go sledding with my friend at two thirty like I said I would.
So anyhow...
The people who are getting married do not know their future spouse before the wedding, typically. But apparently that is not important. They do SEE each other, so they like SORT OF know each other before the wedding, but they are always accompanied by half of the family. So they know each other, but they do not like really get to know them until after they are married. So if the dude is a bitch that does not seem like a bitch at first, the girl will not know that until they get married. That seems fun. Really fun. For people who are living in faraway places and come home for a while, a wedding is arranged within two weeks. At this point I think that the writer of the essay is either slightly biased or not entirely in touch with what goes on in India, because he is saying that a lot of marriages in India are not technically legal because you have to give valid consent for a marriage to be legal in the Catholic church and you can not give valid consent if you do not know what you are consenting to, and therefore many Indian marriages happening today are invalid. This person seems to think that a lot of Indian people are Catholic. True, many are. But there are still plenty others who are Hindu or whatever the official religion of India is. Anyway, marriages with the consent of the children because the parents of the marrying kids were finding a comprimise between what the kids want and what the parents want and all is well and good. AND the kids give "valid consent". Okay, skipping a couple paragraphs about the scandals of American dating....Okay!!! In India, marriage is like a contract for the woman. She is expected to do everything the guy wishes her to do, and that goes for the family, too. She has no choice for who she is going to marry and even if she falls in love with someone else, her feelings on the matter are not taken into consideration. Well, that's the end of that article. Here's the link: http://berchmans.tripod.com/arrange.html
I'm going to stop my note-taking for today.
IS IT SNOWING AGAIN?!?!?? or is that just the blowoff from the roof and trees? I think it's the blowoff. No, it's actually snowing. I think. Oh well I have to go now. I have to shove practice my forms, and work on something for Girl Scouts.

my school's theater program is the best ever

Well, the title basically said it. I went to see "unhealthy to be unpleasant" at my school, and it was officially one of the funniest plays ever. Even funnier than "boys and ghouls" last year, which I was in. It was rather amazing. But then, it had the amazing eighth grader whose name shall not be disclosed (ask me if you want to know who it was), who is the best crazy lady ever. And of course, it was directed by the amazing senior whose name will need to be asked of me if you want to know who it was, who is crazy funny, so it works out. We had the amazing eighth grader in "boys and ghouls", and she was the crazy witch grandma. I was the robot. It was rather amazing. And we both got to do crazy voices. Well, SHE got to do a crazy voice. I got to do monotone. Which is really boring. But I had the FUNNEST (YES I KNOW FUNNEST ISN'T A WORD BUT I'M USING IT ANYWAY) part ever. Because I was a freaking ROBOT!!! And I got to break down a lot because I was around five generations old and I was technically a Frankenstein monster test run. And I was supposed to be a guy, technically. But a GUY couldn't do half the things that I ended up doing with my hair, so it worked out. AND they somehow managed to incorporate the coffin we had in "boys and ghouls" into "unhealthy to be unpleasant", which was rather hilarious. Another girl who was in "boys and ghouls" and I had a random OMG moment when we saw it come out, because it was like, WOAH, because neither of us thought that we'd ever see it again. It was rather amazing.
I'm currently listening to "footloose" on my iPod, which is the awesomest song ever. I want to get up and do the choreography that I had to learn in 6th grade when we did it for the summer chorus concert.
I'm trying to tell you it will if you don't even try you can fly if you'd only cut loose footloose kick off your sunday shoes please louise get me off of my knees...
hahahaha I LOVE that song.
*random flingie-arm-random-spazzy-dance-moment!!!!*
Well, I'm really packed with knitting right now. I'm working on a vest/jacket type thing for my cousin's wedding over the summer, and I'm knitting a pair of gloves for the play.
Now I'm listening to The Boxer by Carbon Leaf. It is a rather amazing song. She is the boxer she knows when and where to strike he is the boxer he knows no peaceful city tonight...
Sorry. That's another song I love rather a lot. Mind you, there's about fifty songs that I love rather a lot. I love music in general. Unless it's metal or rap or soul or blues or anything that my brother likes. Because the music my brother likes isn't really music. It's more like people yelling about sex and drugs and whores to a beat. And metal is people yelling unintelligably to unintelligible guitar chords. I have to go now. Bed.

antholio

okay, TODAY is the antholio day because TODAY I actually have the sheet on which the rubric is given for THE ANTHOLIOS!!!
So the antholio I'm going to start with is the one about artistic representation of the language. So I'm going to find some quotes and then I'm going to put them on a sheet of paper (here meaning on the blog and then copy and paste them later) and then I'm going to decide which of the other artistic representations I'm going to do. Definately not the one with the CD because my itunes gift card only has 39 cents left on it. So I'm goinng to do..................................something that I will decide once I have quotes!!!
Okay. So quotes:
An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind.~Ghandi Hate the sin and love the sinner.~Ghandi First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win. ~Ghandi (that's my new favorite quote of all time) My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. He told me to be in the first group, there was less competition there. ~Indira Gandhi You have to dream before your dreams can come true.~Abdul Kalam Unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. Fear has no place in the world. Ony strength respects strength. ~Abdul Kalam You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.~Bhudda Three things cannot be long hidden-the sun, the moon, and the truth. ~Bhudda We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.~Bhudda You cannot travel the path until you have become th path itself. ~Bhudda The only secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed. ~Bhudda God does not require us to succeed; He only requires for you to try.~Mother Theresa I know God will not give me anything I can't hande. I just wish He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Theresa Peace begins with a smile. ~Mother Theresa If you want to make peace, don't talk to your friends. Talk to your enemies. ~Mother Theresa If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.~Mother Theresa It is a kingly act to assist the fallen. ~Mother Theresa You can never enter the same river twice. ~proverb (even though it was used in Pocahontas) Blaming your faults on your nature does not change the nature of your faults. ~proverb Do not blame God for creating the tiger, but thank Him for not giving it wings. ~proverb If you want to go east, don't go west. ~Ramakrishna Work, apart from devotion or love of God, is helpless and cannot stand alone. ~Ramakrishna All the flowers of tomorrow come from the seeds of today.~proverb A smile you sent, will always return.~proverb To watch us dance is to hear our heart speak~proverb
that's all the decent quotes I could find. So now to decide what the next bit is going to be. But NOOOOOO now it's time for dinner.
Me and my mom are going to a play at my school soon so I'd better go.
I WILL finish!!

roooooooaaaaaaar-rants about my annoying life

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! I really feel like a piece of s***t right now. I really need to take control of my life because my mom is currently dominating the entire scene. Really. I mean, most kid's parents would be okay with them being like, "hey, can I do this camp instead of that camp?" or something. Well, my mom's not THAT intimidating, but she still can be scary.
My mom is seriously domineering, though, when she wants to be. I've pretty much been doing what she wants because I'm kind of sort of scared of her. She's intimidating. Really intimidating. And because of that, since the age of about seven I've never really wanted to stand up to her for fear of intimidation from her and disappointment on both sides. I feel like I need to take control of something, but I've never had the guts to even raise my hand in class until I was sure of the answer, and by then someone else was sure of the answer and had risen their hand because that's what other people do.
I don't want other people to control my life. But I'm scared of being in control because I'm sure I'll mess up on something. The only thing I seem to be able to control with minimal mistakes is knitting, and that's only because I don't trust myself to do interesting stitches. That's why I'm SO freaked out about this thing I'm knitting for my cousin's wedding. I'm so scared I'm going to seriously mess up on something and then not figure out what went wrong until I've done another thirty two rows. I'm SO LAME!!!!!
I don't really know why I can't seem to trust myself. I'm a dreamer, but nothing more. Seriously. I can only dream of stuff I wish I could do and never seem to take initiative for doing it. That's probably because of the fact that I'm really intimidated by everyone else. I don't know why I'm suddenly so insecure about it, either. Sheesh. I'm more lame than I thought, and that's saying something.
I have to go eat lunch now.
But I don't want to.
So I'm not going to.
But seriously. My mom takes a lot of safety measures to which I can see the point some of the time. But not all of the time. I used to be so scared of doing anything that she wouldn't like that I wasn't able to stick up for myself. So I sort of did some stuff behind her back. Like this. She didn't know about this until I told her, which was after I set the blog up. And I cuss sometimes at school. I used to be so freaked out about it, but now it's not such a big deal. All my friends do it. The only cuss word that I haven't said is the "f" word. Besides, sometimes cussing makes the situation a whole lot funnier. Which is most of the reason why my friends cuss a lot. Because our TA's quote book wouldn't be so full of funny quotes if half the people hadn't used the word "shit" in the sentence. I have only cussed in front of my mother once. It was at a church retreat, and we were both in the room we were supposed to be in, and I said "dammit" because I forgot my toothbrush.
Well, that's all I have time for. Because I'm hungry. And mom's being domineering again. :(.
