I'm exceedingly behind on my novel. It is kind of crazy how far behind I am. I'm supposed to end on page 108 by the end of today. I'm on page 40. This isn't going to end well. Unless I stop blogging RIGHT NOW and start writing and somehow speed write fourteen pages a day for the next week. And then do six pages for the three days after that. Or something to that effect. I haven't done the calculations yet. Well, none that involve page counts per day. That made absolutely no sense, did it? Anyway, the point is, I'm going to have to get no sleep and a really bad writer's cramp for the next week and a half if I want to get back on schedule. Which I kind of do. Because I want to finish the novel.
I checked out a book from the library on Saturday about how teens can get published. So far, it has mostly covered short stories and poetry competitions and publishers - well, those are the only ones that I've seen, anyway. It's also a bit out of date - I'm pretty sure it was published in the mid-90's, so there's the fact that there could be more/ fewer publishers who want to publish teen writing than there were when the book was published. Just saying. But, so far, the bits I have read for the "Before You Submit" parts have been really helpful, because they most likely still apply to any writer. So yeah.
In other news, I auditioned for the all-grades show today. I can't spell the title of the show - the drama teacher wrote it, and the title is the name of the mythical country to which the main character goes in a dream. So yeah. A lot of my friends wonder why I auditioned for the show, because in two all-grades shows we've been in, rehearsals mostly consist of middle schoolers being insane, high schoolers getting headaches, and some blocking and line memorizing getting done on the side. My answer is that it's still EXPERIENCE, no matter who gets casted in what role. I still act to figure out what I can do better in performance, no matter how idiotic the middle schoolers are. I mean, it's still annoying for them to be so loud so much of the time, but there are some that are okay. To middle schoolers, big casts mean more time to hang out with friends, and more friends to hang out with. Although that's mostly true, I feel like most middle schoolers would be okay with shutting up while other people learn their blocking, but all the mental middle schoolers get cast and goof off just to get a rise out of the others, which causes the others to rise up to the challenge, which causes all the commotion.
And that's my rant for today. I will be writing for the rest of the block, and if you care to interrupt, be prepared for pain.

Many Sad Farewells
Well, tonight is a goodbye dinner for my TA, who is leaving this Friday for Florida for family stuff. Which sucks for us, but her family will be grateful she is there. And she will be missed. A lot. Times eighteen. However, duty calls. And sometimes it calls at the beginning of the fourth quarter of the school year. But whatever. However much it sucks, she will be invited back a LOT for graduation, shows, and other things of that nature, and all of us in her TA hope (a lot) that she will PLEASE accept any and all invitations back to see whichever ones of us are performing/ graduating/ doing stuff of an important nature. PLEASE!!!

COOOOKKKKKIIIIIIIIEEEEESSSSSSS
I just finished my Journalism article on Girl Scout Cookies. And I'm now very hungry for Girl Scout Cookies, despite the huge bowl of fruit that's sitting right next to me. Apparently, Little Brownie Bakers (which is one of two licensed Girl Scout bakeries in the US) has had nearly thirty varieties of cookie since it began baking for Girl Scouts in 1974. One variety, I kid you not, was called "Trail Mix." Who would eat cookies called "Trail Mix?" Apparently, nobody did, because it didn't come back for a second selling season. I don't blame the people of the early 90's for not bringing the Trail Mix Cookies back.
Anyway, moving on, I have NOT worked on my novel since Friday, and I'm NOT happy about it. I'm already WAY behind as is (though arguably not as WAY behind as I was... though that might have changed, now that I have an additional twelve pages of Missed Daily Writing to make up).
I also took my second degree black belt test yesterday, which made me kind of sore in many areas of the body. I was the only girl and I was obviously the oldest. I was also the only one testing for their second degree. Make of that what you will.
Also, the kid testing for his kup (between first degree and second degree) blatantly tried to correct me for one of the one-step sparrings, when I was testing for a higher level than him and he'd learned a different Throw Sparring Number Two than I had.
I don't blame the two red belts for not wanting to test at the main dojang, but at the same time, I'm still bit mad that they didn't have it as hard as I did. We didn't even do SPARRING yesterday. You haven't experienced truly hard-core sparring unless you've fought with the kids from one of the dojangs where they teach their students to kick people onto their butts and then attack immediately after the victim gets back up. Which hurts a lot. I nearly got knocked over a second time. But that doesn't really matter, I guess.
Anyway, I have to go and research stuff about World War Two tomorrow, so I can not fail at the debate thingie we're having and hopefully get a decent grade this quarter.

Writing again (before I die)
Well, I HAVE successfully carried out Operation Retrieve Old NaNoWriMo notebook, and I have now made quite a bit of progress (not a satisfactory amount of progress, but suffice it to say that I no longer have an excuse to write fewer than three to six pages a day).
However, I might as well not have done it, because I'm quite sure that I'm going to die tomorrow morning in my second degree black belt test. Although I know it is probably not going to be as emotionally taxing as the first degree test, this one will be more mentally taxing. I have to practice my old forms - the Tageuks, which I have not practiced since my first degree test. I barely remember a lot of them - lame, I know.
Anyway, in other news, when my doom is not being foretold, I had District Festival today. It was for chorus - we went, and people judged us on our singing; then we left that room and read by sight, where we got judged on that, and then we waited for forty minutes for the bus to come before coming home again.
And now I'm here.
And my brother is home from college.
HOORAY!!!
Anyway, for some reason, I'm kind of tired - I don't know why.
And I should practice my forms and work out my board breaks. Goodbye.

Waaaay behind
Well, I know that I said that I'd work on my novel for Lent, along with reducing my sugar intake in favor of water.
However, the novel bit isn't working quite as well.
I'm currently 30 (or more) pages behind. Why? I'm pretty sure that part of the reason has to do with the fact that I have to keep stalling the scene because I keep forgetting to look up which deity/ star they are supposed to be saving. I can only think of so many ways to stall this scene, and I have come up with the last good cause (which is going to result in them finding the deity/ star). Each of these stalling things takes up about a page, and I've had a net gain of three pages since about Thursday. This means that, as I was a few days behind then, I have about 30 pages to go until I meet today's quota. Wonderful!! This isn't going to end well, I'm quite sure of it.
In other news, the sugar-reduction thing is going well. The drink-more-water thing is going reasonably well, but I feel like I'm drinking less water. I mean, I'm drinking more water than I did a week ago, but I'm not drinking as much water as I did when Lent started. It could be that I'm not as dehydrated as I was before; however, I'm still not drinking as much water as I technically should be.
Oh, the annoyingness.
However, I HAVE started practicing voice/ forms/ piano every day, which has resulted in (surprise!) an increase in proficiency in the bits I've been working on (which is completely NOT liable to happen when one practices stuff... not).
Soooooooooo yeah.
Goodbye for now. :D

There has been a supreme lack of posting...
Well, I looked at my 2011 stats so far, and I am horribly dissapointed in myself. Counting this post, I've only done 34 posts this year. This is exceedingly lame, and I must do better over pain of lack of posting.
You know, I learned something this afternoon. I realized just what an amazingly HUGE Greek Mythology NERD I am. Why? Well, let's start with the main reason I have not been working on my novel: rather than writing about a fictional character that is named after a Greek goddess, but really has nothing whatsoever to do with said goddess (except with the whole returning-balance stuff), I'm looking through this AWESOME volume called "the Dictionary of Classical Mythology," (I cannot remember the author's name), and looking for every nymph I can find, writing down her name, and recording what she did (even if it's like, "mother of Obscure Heroine"). How many nymphs have I recorded so far (including the Mothers Of Obscure Heroines)? Well, I have no idea. I'm in the middle of the P's, and I have probably done... I don't know... 100, maybe? Something like that. The number is BIG.
Anyway, the second level of my Greek mythology obsession is that, after seeing "helped Odysseus in 'the Oddessy'" or "helped Obscure Greek Soldier Number Forty-Two in 'The Illiad'" approximately 780,000,000,000 times, I have finally decided that I would go ahead and get a translation of "the Illiad" to see what all these nymphs were up to.
And, for the record, it may just be the translation, or the fact that I'm only eight pages in, or the fact that it's an old edition and I'm third person to check this copy out since 1994, but there's NOTHING about how Achilles was dunked into the river Styx (who's a nymph as well) by Thetis (who's a NEREID).
It just says that Thetis was crying as she saw Achilles decide to have a short life with eternal glory or something.
So... yeah.
Anyhoo, I'm off, but I'll return later, when I'm done being killed by the SAT, not writing my novel, not doing push-ups, hiking, and sleeping so I won't die on the SAT.
Goodbye for now!

Lent: whatever day this is
Well, my Lenten Success Story (or lack thereof) is as follows:
Tuesday (not actually Lent yet): I decide I want to give up anything with more than 12 grams of sugar (this means artificial sugar... i.e., fruit does not count, fruit juice does; so does yogurt); to write at least six pages of my novel (about two thousand words); and to do at least forty or fifty push-ups a day.
Wednesday (first day of Lent): I keep my sugar under control; I do NOT meet the day's writing quota (though I am close); I don't even attempt my push-ups.
Thursday: after coming home from an SOL and an early release, I sit and watch TV for a few hours. I DO do push-ups in TKD; I write to meet Wednesday's quota; sugar remains under control. Added plus: I learn that girl scout cookies have an acceptable level of sugar intake, as long as I only have three (or seven, in the case of Trefoils... YAY FOR NO TOPPINGS ON COOKIES!).
Friday: No writing. No push-ups. No sugar. I'm now six pages behind schedule, and I made my most recent action scene irritatingly short... but, as the NaNoWriMo rules state (which I'm going to be applying here), the only editing I'm allowed to be doing is fixing a word or two to bump my word count AS I GO ALONG. This is another reason I'm doing it by hand - to make sure I only go back to check details about people.
Saturday (aka tomorrow): nothing is going to get done, except perhaps the MOST IMPORTANT TEST OF MY LIFE (my first SAT, which I am going to FAIL). I have to be there at 7:45 ON A WEEKEND, and then I'm going HIKING right after with venture crew. And then I'm babysitting.
I want to sleep tonight, but on the other hand, I'm not going to be able to write 24 pages on Sunday - I have IYAG, and all the homework that I didn't do on Saturday.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't you just LOVE insanity?
Anyway, for all of you Christian peeps out there: what are YOU doing for Lent?

stuff and stuff
As Lent draws ever nearer, I have started thinking about what I want to give up. My parents and I are doing a 'money fast' with church, but that only lasts 21 days. I'm going to give up soda again as well; but in addition to that, I'm also (probably) going to do 40-50 pushups daily (if I can pull it off) and attempt to finish my NaNoWriMo novel. I haven't worked on it in a long time and I kind of want to finish it, because it would look good on college applications. Also, to say I actually wrote a novel.
And also so I can finish it and (maybe) send it to publishers. Maybe. I haven't gotten that far yet. I don't know whether I want to send it to publishers or not, mostly because, as I'm not familiar with the publishing business, I don't want to wind up being like, "YAY! I SOLD A NOVEL!!! Wait... I also just sold my soul/ imagination/ life/ rights/ etc... great... goodbye, life." But more on this when I actually finish the novel/ type it/ edit it/ actually get self-esteem enough to feel like selling it.
Plusses of selling/ publishing: if I sell it before senior year, I will most likely be able to a) get into every college I apply to and b) be able to afford tuition for a semester at NYU.
Minuses: a) multiple rejections, b) transferral of soul ownership.
And that's all for now.

Rangers, reading, and movies
I finished the Ranger's Apprentice: Book Three: the Icebound Land (FINALLY!) last night. I LOVE the ending, and I can't wait to get my hands on book four. However, this morning, instead of working on physics, I decided to put 'Ranger's Apprentice' into Google. And do you know what came up in the little 'support feed' or whatever it is? 'RANGER'S APPRENTICE MOVIE!' AAAHHH!!!
I mean, I'm kind of excited for this, because this is a good series for movies (despite the fact that, as of April, there will be ten books). At the same time, I am kind of scared for the movies, because, unlike with Harry Potter (when the first movie came out) and Lord of the Rings, I've read the first two books of Ranger's Apprentice about five million times, so I'll KNOW if the movie producers kill it in any way. I don't WANT them to kill it in any way, because the first book of Ranger's Apprentice is WONDERFUL, and filmmakers have a penchant for messing movies up majorly.
I seriously will have to get a group together and sue something if I find that they mess it up in any way. Something will get cut out and added in its place; Jenny, George, and Alyss will probably get pulled out and replaced with a trio of completely irrelevant people. The producers will probably give the masses the impression that Will and Horace are the only two wards that year, and the fans of the books will be forced to unite and sue them for supreme deviation.
Which WILL happen.
So please, Filmmakers, if you value your lives, do NOT mess these movies up. Please. For the sake of John Flanagan's son, for whom the books were written.

Wow... last day of the month...
Here I am again, blogging and such. I know that I haven't posted in a while. I have been reading a LOT, and also knitting, writing, and generally avoiding the computer for no evident reason except that I feel like it.
In other news, my mother wants me to drive to tae kwon do on Thursday. By myself. Alone. I have my license and the legal ability to drive on my own, but I don't know if I want to - I still have my doubts as to whether most people on the main road will come out alive if I'm driving on it without my mom to yell at me to slow down and stuff. I mean, I kind of want to drive alone, but at the same time, I think that the mortality age of humans in this area is going to go up by a lot if I do so at night on a crowded road that I have driven a lot. Just putting it out there.
In other news, I saw the Oscars for the first time last night. I didn't see all of it, thanks to these annoying things called 'school' and 'alarm clocks' and 'sleep.' But overall I think it was a really good show - especially because Anne Hathaway was hosting. James Franco, frankly, was kind of blah. I know most girls will say that he doesn't need to be as animated as Anne Hathaway because he's attractive, but come on. Anne Hathaway was kind of all over it, and James Franco was just like, "Yep. Anne's got it covered. I'm just gonna stand here and look pretty and let all the teenage girls at home scream their heads off."
That's all the rambling I have for now.
Bye!

craazy week
As evident by the title, this week has been kind of hectic. The only night that I didn't/ won't have anything to do was Monday. In a way it's kind of nice - it gives me the impression that I have a life.
Sunday was a party for a friend's birthday, Monday was free, Tuesday was Glee, yesterday I had a voice lesson and then went to an opera dress rehearsal with the chorus department (for Madame Butterfly... it was really good), tonight I'm babysitting, and tomorrow and Saturday are still in planning, but on one of those nights, I'm going to hang out with another friend and on the other I'm going to see a school play.
And in the mean time I'm going to do homework, read (a lot) and knit for an IYAG fundraiser, for which I'm immensely psyched. I haven't been bringing my knitting to school a lot, which makes me very sad, but the main reason for the lack of knitting is an increased about of reading.
I read on a different blog that the writer was trying to read 100 books in a year, and, despite the late start, I decided to do it, too. I think there's some sort of parent organization that has some rules and strictures and stuff about the 100 book year (i.e. a certain number has to be nonfiction, etc), but I haven't heard about it, so I'm just going to read like there is no tomorrow and hope that I make it.
And that's what I have today. :D
