long Saturday

Well, here I am. Again. Waiting for dinner.

Today was a good day. Mostly because it was more than five degrees above freezing for more than half the day. YAY! (also, my mom and I got Lucky Charms last night, and I had some this morning. It made me very happy).

A large percent of the day was spent watching TV and knitting, but I ALSO went 'running' (really, 89.8% walking, 9.2% jogging, and 1% running), worked on my Balsa Wood Bridge for physics (not going so well... at least I'm realizing NOW how stupid wood glue can be instead of the nigth before it is due), sorted one hundred and ten boxes of girl scout cookies (and put sticky notes on nearly all of them to say which belonged to which person), and filled out some Silver Trefoil forms.

Yes, a pretty productive day. Also, it was SUNNY OUTSIDE! And I wasn't freezing my butt/ face/ thighs/ hands/ limbs/ nose off while outside! And I still got some knitting done! HOORAY!!!

And I also practiced piano a bit, which was fun.

Anyway, I'm going to go do something non-productive now. I've had enough productivity for one day. Goodbye.

greetings!

I know that I haven't posted in three days. Shun me if you want to.
Anyway, I'm here with just a random update about stuff, like the fact that I'm in denial that the musical is over, the fact that I'm psyched to go to tae kwon do today, and that I COULD have spent the last three blocks doing homework, but I didn't, because there's this crazy invention called 'time after school' that I'm now in possession of. It's rather mind-boggling. And I'm in denial about it. But that's life.
In other news, I've also been starting to not get to school on time for reasons that I'm not entirely sure of. Maybe it's because I'm not actually waking up when my alarm is going off, and the fact that I am actually making myself eggs in the morning rather than just toast with Nutella on it. But whatever. I'll (hopefully) be able to figure something out. There has been a lot of nothing going on, where the only drama is that I, once again, was nearly late for AP history today. And also, the fact that tomorrow is Friday is extremely exciting. I'm REALLY excited for a weekend where I don't have to be somewhere. Unless my mom informs me tomorrow afternoon at four PM I HAVE to go somewhere. Which would seriously kill my weekend.
But more on that later.
I have been trying to write more, now that there's this funny thing called time, but I haven't been able to come up with anything new/ good. So, instead of pushing forward, I'm moving back. I've been doing a lot of editing lately, so I can submit some stuff to the Scholastics Writing thing for novels. I entered something last year, but I don't think it worked out right because I didn't have an account on the website last year (I do this year, though). So I'm submitting the one I entered last year and the one I did for NaNoWriMo 2010. It's either the NaNo novel or the Pandora one (once I actually correctly line up her back story and stuff).
So that's where I am with that.

Also, I've been looking at my writing lately, as in all the new stuff that I have been trying to come up with, and I've realized how utterly un-creative I am. I mean, the NaNoWriMo novel is the only major thing I've done so far that hasn't employed about fifty billion pre-used Lord-of-the-Rings type cliches. (It only employs about thirty billion pre-used cliches). For example, there is almost ALWAYS a love interest in my stuff, and there is almost ALWAYS a mentor type person, and the characters are almost ALWAYS looking for something in most of my stuff. The only exception to the last one, I'm realizing, is the Pandora one. Okay, she IS looking for something, but it's not something tangible. And she's not declaring it out-right because even she's not entirely aware that she's looking for it.
So that's my rambling for today. :D

stuff and stuff

It feels so WEIRD. I'm actually home before sunset, and I don't have to leave again for another hour. Also, I was able to not do my homework during my free blocks and not have to stress about not finishing it during school, for a change. It sort of feels wrong to be here, at home, blogging, rather than at school in character shoes, singing, dancing, and moving props around.
The shows went really well, I thought, except for some people missing their cues (aka me) and some songs getting messed up, but other than that it was fine.
Apparently, SOME of the audience could not hear some characters so well, but they could hear me fine.
This is rather odd, in my head, because one of the characters in question had a face mic and relatively good projection and the other was at the front of the stage near the floor mics a lot of the time, and I had no mic, was standing at the back of the stage, and was specifically told in rehearsal that I needed to project more (which was reasonable, considering that I was at the back of the stage and could not hear myself, nor was I near any floor mics, ever).
That was odd news, and it thus caused a slight falling out between me and the friend that told me about it - I thought the people in question had fine volume from a backstage area and half a hallway away, and so we had a brief (and, I thought, relatively civil) arguement/ discussion about the differing opinions, causing me to be asked what my problem was, getting all annoyed whenever someone offered an opinion that differed from my own.
And now, in short, the friend isn't speaking to me (we have three classes together and normally eat lunch in the same group), which kind of sucks.
So yeah.

Baaack!

Well, being such a NaNoWriMo nerd, I went on the website and started looking at the old videos. Which are funny. My favorites are the donor shout-outs and the song parodies - there's one called "NaNo will make a scribe out of you" (parody of the Mulan song "I'll make a man out of you."). There's also a parody of the William Tell overture.
And, at the end of page two, there's the NaNo Video bloopers.
These aren't the bloopers of the song parodies - these are the bloopers of the Donor Shout-out videos, pep talk videos, and whatever other videos happen to be officially made by the people at the OLL.
And it made me very happy because there was a Ewok at the end.
Even though it's in the 2009 bloopers.
And it's probably a copyright violation.

Anyhow, I'm going to go now. And bake cookies. Or just debate whether we have enough cookies. No, 100 cookies is NOT ENOUGH. I have to make 10 dozen for the Snowflake Ball tonight, which I was going to attend for volunteer hours, but I couldn't because the show was postponed. But they still need the cookies. Because there are going to be like 400 people there. If 400 people want three cookies each, and 12 girls make 10 dozen cookies each... never mind, I don't want to do the math. Wait... wait... yeah, I don't want to do the math.
But the point is, they want enough so that the people who just sit on the sides and eat cookies won't wipe out the entire supply of meringues.
Also, so there will actually be meringues.
Yes, I made meringues.
And, in making them, I got all of my hours - they're three hours in the oven.

And I have to go do a cookie conference now.
Stay awesome, people.
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT KAREN!

anniversary!

Well, two years ago today, I started this blog on a whim because I felt like it. I had no idea why I did it; I didn't know what I would do with it in the future. I STILL don't know what I'm doing with it, aside from ranting to the internet and posting my writing. And stuff. Since then, I have been in five shows... SIX shows, done three mission trips, had two jobs in one summer, and went to Disney world. Also, used power tools. And written fifty thousand words in a month. More than that, probably.
Also, I've come up with more ideas than I ever thought possible and also had a lot of arguments with my mother. And a lot of other cool stuff that was really cool that I didn't really think, as a freshman, that I'd do. Like use power tools. And writing a novel in a month. And getting my black belt.
Speaking of black belts, after the show is over, I'm going to have all of one month to review all the stuff that I need to review and learn the second kup stuff for my second degree test in March.
Which is another thing that I didn't think that I'd manage to do - get my second degree.
I'm going to have to do a LOT of push-ups in order to prepare for the test. Which will be exhausting. And traumatizing. And stuff. BRING IT ON!!!
SO anyway, if you haven't already, you need to go see Guys and Dolls and also go into the archives and see what all I said as a freshman in high school.

New Literary Update

Okay, so as a Creative Writing Challenge, we had to write little pieces with words that were only one syllable. It was actually kind of hard. But here's mine. It's from the perspective of Shyasha, but I obviously couldn't have it in third person because both her name and her nickname (Shya) are more than one syllable. ARGH!

“I am the girl they hate now, Tel,” I say. “I’m not worth it.”
“Why?” he asks.
“Need I say, once more –” I start, but he cuts me off.
“You’re strange now,” he says, a sad note in his voice. “I’m not sure I like it.”
“Why?” I say. “It should not be worse than what I am named by the public.”
“I met you as a child,” Tel said, out of the blue. “I fell in love with you as a man. Now I feel shame when I see you. Does that make me more of a man or more of a child?”
“Shame for me?” I say. “I need no help in that area, thank you.”
“No, shame for me,” he says. “I hurt you. I killed you. Once I fell in love with you, I killed you. And then I wed your –”
“I know what you did,” I cut off. “But it must be much more… nice, to be the King with the Rose of the Land as your bride, not the groom of a girl with scars of shame and no true home.”
“I would pick the girl with the scars,” Tel says, “because the scars have a past. They show that the girl has a spark that the rich bride lacks. Last time I saw, the scars had a past that should be told; a past that wants to get out.” He steps near to me and stares down at me like I am not what he is used to; it is true, I am not. This look still has a thought in back of the sad look. “Does that wild girl still have fire?” he asks in a soft voice; his dark eyes watch mine. “Or has the shame of her face put it out?” His hand comes up to touch my face; I brush it off.
“The wild girl has fire,” I say, “but she knows now what to do with it. If it is not used right, though, she has scars to tell her. I think you may need the scars too, Tel. It would do you good.”
“I could use them,” he says in a soft voice. “Then I would know how you feel.”
“You have no chance to know,” I say, as I pull up my hood and turn to go, “Until you feel the pain of a heart that has been hurt. Until then, you have no clue.”
“My heart has not been hurt by this?” he asks as I reach the door.
“Not as bad as mine has,” I grunt, too quietly for him to hear.

Argh

Well, due to the fact that the show was essentially snowed out, Guys and Dolls did NOT go up this past weekend. Instead, it will be going up THIS weekend.
I originally was going to work at a Girl Scout event for Silver Trefoil hours on Saturday, but that's not happening. Instead of monitoring second-graders, I will be 'beating up' Cubans, picking pockets, waiting tables, singing, dancing, helping with testimony, and returning wallets. Also, I'll be getting chased up and down Broadway by a horde of rampant people (police officer, fellow money-mangler, and two victims). But I'm exceedingly excited nonetheless.
Although the director has yet to inform us how we're going to make up the rehearsal we missed, I'm glad that the show is going up and that Winter Formal has been moved so that loud rap music won't be conflicting with "Adelaide's Lament" on Friday night.
There is a lot of trouble with moving the show, however - the students of the pit who are in District Band are not allowed to miss their two-hour rehearsal on Thursday or their performance on Saturday, or they will not be allowed to audition again for another two years.
Which really sucks.
But, on the bright side (at least for me), I am bowing alongside fewer than three people! This means that I FINALLY count as non-ensemble!! HOORAY! Okay, I'm still bowing with one other person, but still. We're the sort of "these are the two random people who are too important for ensemble but not important enough to have their own bow so they're bowing together" type bow. YAY!

POWER!

Well, we had no power or rehearsal yesterday, which makes me quite sad. What makes me even more sad is that we have no school today, which means no opening night tonight. Although I sort of dislike Thursday night performances, there's still the undeniable fact that Friday is now opening night, which will sort of mean that Friday, which should be well-attended, will not be as good as it could be. We missed two full run-throughs, one of them being the opening performance, which is kind of bad.
Also, some of the seniors have college auditions on Saturday in the middle of the matinee (the replacement third performance), which is kind of bad, as one of them is kind of significant. I AM glad we're doing the third performance, (the music department kind of needs it), but I don't know whether it's going to be any good, since there will be some significant people missing and lack of publicity. SO yeah.
Also, I was kind of looking forward to opening night.
Also, now that there's no school and no show, I have absolutely no excuse not to get all my due-tomorrow homework done.
Grr.
At least we have power!

[falls asleep on keyboard]

Well, as of six thirty this morning, I have officially proved that five-hour rehearsals SUCK. Especially if you have AP history terms to finish, and if you have small enough parts to have big gaps between your parts but big enough parts to not be able to get anything done (except scene and costume changes) in between. I mean, I'm AWARE that there's not even the occasional homework thing for the students in the pit (there, I admitted that it's hard for the pit as well. Happy, Jillster?), but there's still the fact that it kind of sucks for the performers too. We have to sing and dance at the same time, remember lines and blocking, and make sure that we get enough sleep AND finish homework in the little amount of time that we have in between!

Jillster, for the record, I respect your work and stuff, but I still don't know how you survive without free blocks. Remember to sign up for one next year if you plan on being in the pit again (or want to be in any show again. It is a General Rule of Thumb for any Student That Plans to be Involved in Any Show Week Ever). But it's a General Tip for any middle schooler who wants to sign up for the musical in high school: make sure you have study hall or a free block in which to do your homework for all the annoying teachers that assign lots of homework (and for all the homework for the other teachers, too). That is, if you want to actually SLEEP and not have your growth severely stunted and your temper fuse cut short.

But still, it's going to save you a LOT of time when you get home from rehearsal and you're all tired and stuff and you don't want to finish your homework.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

;)

Well, here I am. In the library. Blogging. Two hours before the commencement of the nine-o-clock rehearsal occurs. Oh, joy. This is going to be difficult. Show week always is. This week is when we start rehearsing with a full band, doing full runs of the show, and hoping and praying to whatever deities that we worship that we don't fail too much by opening night. This is also the time of full lights, full costume, and full levels of craziness. Also, eating dinner at school rather than at home. And trying to do homework between scene changes, scenes, costume changes, and anything else that might be going on.
Which is a lot.
Although I really like show week, this is usually the hardest week of the school year. With the all-grades show, there isn't as much pressure not to mess up. Not that there isn't any pressure not to mess up in the all-grades show. It's just there's MORE pressure not to mess up in the musical because there are professional musicians in the pit and we don't want to waste more of their time than is necessary. Also, they're PROFESSIONAL.
Also, there is the fact that our musical is normally really good. Except, for the record, this time isn't going to be really good. It's going to be fairly bad, in fact. Why?
Certain characters who shall remain nameless STILL don't know all of their lines. These people are significant enough to have a lot of lines, so it's somewhat excusable; however, they have all of THREE DAYS to make it right. Okay, three and a half. But still. The point is, normally by this point people would have all their lines memorized and would be held over pain of death and being cut from the show if they did not.
Also, we would have already had the platform built on the stage, when we only got it on Saturday. This is not going to go well. However, as my mom rightly said, normally a terrible tech week means a great opening night. HOPEFULLY that will prove true. There are also still some props to be dealt with, and some other annoying things that seem to happen during show week.
However, I think a lot of the time, all this stuff happens during show week in order to have a good show. But this still doesn't disprove the fact that this will be the HARDEST show week in the history of Show Weeks.
That being said, I'm going to go do some homework. Goodbye.

Rehearsal! (also, college)

Well, I'm not at rehearsal NOW. But I'll be going forth to attend rehearsal in approximately half an hour. So it counts. Sort of.
Anyhow, on Wednesday, we started the English electives for third quarter, and everyone in my class (SAT prep) got a Naviance account. Naviance is this online college-helper-finder thingamabopper that also does your personality profile (Jungian style) and career reccomendations and stuff. It is actually kind of helpful. Well, except for the part where the college consulor for my school put my GPA in as a 3.3 (as of now, it is technically around a 3.5, counting this semester), so basically the only school that I am smart enough to get in to (that I want to go to, anyway) is Longwood University. Not that I'm complaining. I kind of really want to go to Longwood. But still. So far, that's the ONLY school that I can reasonably get in to with a 3.3 GPA. Which is kind of discouraging, due to the fact that I want to go to college.
Hopefully it will have gone up to a 3.5 by the time I actually start applying... because it would really suck if it didn't, because I wouldn't be able to get in ANYWHERE.

school post

Well, here I am again. Blogging. And stuff. I have a free block from creative writing, and I should be using it to work on the preliminary research for a history essay, but I'm instead using it for slacking. I'm using all my slack-off time now instead of later so I can focus better on the essay. I know that it makes absolutely NO sense anywhere except in my head.
I'm also here to look up the proper spelling of "reconcilable." Which I actually spelled correctly, for a change.
The essay has to be hand-written, black ink, double spaced, one-sided, and written in 60 minutes or fewer, so that's why I need the spell-check. I should also be looking for quotes as well.
And it's almost 2:00, so I'm going to go and do that now, so I can NOT FAIL AP history. Because if I did, that would really suck. It would also be the only class I have ever failed ever.
And there is the slight danger that that might actually happen. And I REALLY don't want that to happen. SO I'm going now. Goodbye.
p.s. Does it count as failing the AP class if you pass the class but not the AP exam? Or if you fail the exam, do you just not get to use the AP credit to get out of history the second time?
